10 ways to update your home for Spring

Spring is in the air, and that may be giving you a little urge to update your home for Spring. With more light starting to come into the home if you’re anything like me, you start feeling that changes need to be made after a dark and dismal winter. There are so many ways you can update your home for Spring whether small or big, injecting a new sense of energy into the space and here are ten ways to do just that from the budget to the more minted:

Budget

Update your cushions

Cushions are a great way adding some Spring energy to an otherwise tired sofa. Thankfully, if you’re just looking at getting some new covers in this can be quite a cost effective way of giving your living room a new lease of life. According to House Beautiful ice cream colours are going to be a big trend over the coming months so look out for any cushion covers that scream gelato at you!

Paint furniture

Praise be chalk paint! The wonderful cheat that can bring any bit of old furniture back from the dead. Painting furniture with chalk paint is relatively quick, easy and forgiving so if you’re kitchen chairs look like they’ve seen better days (like mine!) then get busy with the chalk paint. Here’s a great guide on how to paint with chalk paint.

Have a declutter

Hear this now, there is nothing more cost effective than having a declutter in the quest to make space in your home and make it look all nice and shiny again this Spring. Get brutal with those surfaces and be critical of everything. Apply the question “does it bring my joy” to everything and if it doesn’t then send it off to the charity shop!

Find new internal doors

When you are thinking of looking at new internal glazed doors you will want to consider a few things before you make your decision. For example, your budget and what material you want. One of the more popular choices for interior doors is glass which can be both strong and stylish, but it also comes with a price tag that may be out of range for some people.

As well as being out of your price range, there is also the issue of safety and security when it comes to glass doors. Glass has the potential to shatter very easily, which means that it is not really ideal for internal doors. The other option for interior doors is wood, which does have its own set of problems. Wood can be very beautiful but it can also be very expensive and it does not handle heat particularly well, so if you live in an area that gets very hot in the summer time then this can be a problem.

Introduce an accent wall

Another great way of giving a room a face lift with minimal effort, be bold and introduce an accent wall! You might choose to go with paint or for some serious impact go for some statement wallpaper….I hear geometrics are all the rage this coming season.

Add some greenery to your home

If you can’t get enough of the promise of Spring outside, then bring some of it indoors. Plants are an amazing way of bringing life –  quite literally – into your home – Apartment Therapy says looks for plants with flashes of colour and vibrant, patterned foliage to be in the know.

Get your carpets cleaned

Stained and mucky looking carpets can really make a house look tired. You wouldn’t believe the difference it can make just simply giving your carpets a jolly good clean. Why not order some carpet cleaning products and undertake a deep clean of your carpets to refresh the look of your home and rooms?

Splash some cash

Splurge on some new bedding

If your bedding is looking a bit of tired and you’ve been meaning to get in an upgrade then Spring is the perfect time to do so. You spend a lot of time in your bed so this will be a worthwhile investment I promise.

Invest in some new flooring

Does your flooring look like it’s played host to the F1 of late? If so then perhaps it’s time to bite the bullet and get your floor up-to-date. Solid wood flooring is not only stylish but also durable. Keep on trend with espresso, blonde, honey, grey and whitewashed shades.

Acquire a statement light fixture

A great statement light fixture can literally transform a whole room. Look for something that’s going to make a big visual impact but that is also playful and stylish at the same time.

Change up your curtains

If your curtains are dark and heavy and feel at odds with the energy of Spring time, then consider swapping them out for a more light and breezy counterpart. Curtains can make a huge difference to how a space looks and feels so investing in some Spring/Summer curtains is definitely an option worth considering.

Exchange your dinner plates

If your dinner plates are now looking chipped, scratched and generally tired now you can actually see them in the longer, lighter days, then consider a Spring upgrade. We just recently bought a new set from Dunelm – our go to for tableware and they have some lovely Scandi inspired designs there at the moment.

So there you have it, 10 ways to update your home for Spring. Are you considering doing any of the above? Or perhaps you have your own suggestions to share? Do leave a comment below.

  1. For Spring I always have a big clean and declutter and I change our duvet covers, sofa throws and throw cushions to light colours (from warmers colours). I also change my tealight holders from purples and reds to creams and pinks and I put out different candles (more fresh linen and floral aromas rather than woody aromas) So I must admit, I do alot to welcome the Spring!

  2. For a child.bedroom I like the change of bedding, pillows and curtains and choose lovely pastel colours spring time and warmer colour I’m winter.

  3. We are updating our kitchen at the moment – lots of decluttering going on in there too

  4. We are redecorating the Kitchen this spring and replacing the kitchen floor with tiles

  5. I really need to pull my finger out and do a few rooms, needs a good declutter and redecoration
