7 classic movies for a night in

As a mum, most nights are a night in, but as far as I’m concerned you can’t beat a date night curling up on your couch with a good movie especially after a long day as a busy mum.  Here’s seven great options the next time you want to sink into your couch and catch a good flick:

50 First Dates [2004]

All things considered, this film is not your typical romantic comedy but with comedy legend Adam Sandler and America’s sweetheart Drew Barrymore at the helm, it is a true match made in cinematic heaven. After meeting Lucy, who is diagnosed with a short term memory disorder, Sandler must prove his love for her every day for the rest of their lives, oftentimes at his expense. A true mixture of laughter and grief, this film answers the question: what lengths would you go to be with the one you love?

Ocean’s Eleven [2001]

Often considered one of the best gambling movies of all time, this unique film adds a little levity to the often seedy overtones that make casino films so enjoyable. An all-star cast makes this film one to be remembered and enjoyed with or without your spouse. George Clooney’s Danny Ocean portrayal is one for the ages. Follow as eleven misfit wannabe-millionaires attempt to pull off the greatest heist in Las Vegas history.

True Lies [1994]

The perfect compromise for both sexes, True Lies offers up a unique action-packed thrill ride that is great from start to finish. Jamie Lee Curtis stars alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger as the Taskers. Unbeknownst to Curtis, Arnold has been leading a double life of espionage and counter-terrorism. When Curtis unwittingly gets pulled into the spy-game, they must both overcome the lies that have torn their family apart in order to save the world and each other.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall [2008]

This genius comedy is one of the greatest laugh-out-loud movies of the modern age. With genuine, loveable and awkward moments acted with sincerity by the memorable Jason Segel, Forgetting Sarah Marshall offers a unique duality of being the perfect date-night film or the perfect film to get over a breakup. Want to know the best part of all? There are puppets!

Cruel Intentions [1999]

If you’re looking for something on the steamier end of the spectrum, this angst-filled lust-fest will get the heart pumping and set the right tone for a romantic evening in. Starring fresh-faced Sarah Michelle Gellar, Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe, this modern adaptation of Dangerous Liaisons has something for both sexes.

Kill Bill [2003-2004]

Easily one of the bloodiest films in recent history, Kill Bill volumes one and two surely pack a punch not quickly forgotten. The thing that sets it apart from other films of its kind, however, is the overarching story of a woman seeking revenge. In this bold cinematic masterpiece, the Bride hunts down her violators and demands retribution on those who wronged her.

Jurassic Park [1993]

For the movie night that demands a little more action, Jurassic Park has a little bit of everything to sate the hunger for blood and adrenaline. Get ready to bite off your fingernails as the excitement begins from the get-go. A group of explorers must run for their lives as monsters are unknowingly set loose in a proposed theme-park attraction filled with real-life dinosaurs.
