How to feel inspired again when you’ve lost your mojo

As a parent, life can feel like you’re constantly on a hamster wheel balancing everything to keep up with it all. It can be overwhelming and you may often find that you don’t have enough time for yourself, let alone making sure that everyone else is happy, fed and clothed. With all this crazy going on, it can be hard to feel inspired, can’t it?

Let’s face it, most of us do not particularly feel in control of our lives. Prioritising children, school, work, family and household chores may sound easy but it only takes one unexpected thing to happen to upset the balance and then KABOOM! Perhaps this year you hope to feel more in control of your life, so that you can minimise stress and enjoy more family time and downtime from work – because I sure do!  So how can we get back on track once we’ve lost our mojo? Here are some  simple ways to add more structure to your life to make you feel inspired.

Get organised!

Whether it’s making the children’s packed lunches the night before school, wading through the large pile of paperwork for filing or shredding, putting an evening aside to get all the ironing done, or planning your work clothes the night before, make the time to get a little more organised in your life. Feeling disorganised and certainly getting last minute tasks done creates more stress. If you want to get control of your life, you need to minimise stress.  but how? Giving yourself an extra 15 minutes a day to complete a few things at home before you sit down to relax, may mean that you can avoid chores altogether and save weekends for family time. Hurrah!

Taking time out

Everyone needs time out for themselves, whether it’s time to relax and unwind or time to get active. Studies show that taking just 10 minutes a day for yourself, greatly reduces stress, anxiety and tension. Ask your partner to be with the children while you go for a walk, go to the gym, relax in a bath or read your favourite book. Find new ways to ‘switch off’ by trying meditation, learning about mindfulness or taking yoga. If you’re considering important decisions for home or work, then treat yourself to a psychic reading to get some insight and inspiration for your future. Taking time out is incredibly important for our wellbeing and sometimes it can be difficult to work out how to fit it in, but make sure you do it. Stress can be damaging, so make sure you are doing something which helps reduce it.

Plan special occasions

Make sure you have some dates in the diary to look forward to, such as birthdays, anniversaries and parties. Plan a dinner date at yours for friends and arrange it well in advance so everyone can make it. Schedule a weekend away for just you and the family, somewhere where the kids can have fun and you can relax with your partner and keep your relationship strong. Try and book a babysitter once a month so that you and your partner can have a ‘date night’ and some special time for just the two of you.

Try something new!

Are you creative or artistic? Inspire yourself and try something that you’ve never done before. Crafting, needlework, knitting, learning to play a musical instrument or trying out a new style of cooking gives you time to yourself and gets the creative juices flowing! Having a creative hobby outside of family time and work is good for the soul and is a wonderful form of escapism. How do we know if we will enjoy something if we don’t try something new? It may open up a whole new life, a potential new career or help you to meet new friends!
