Sum up being a mum in five words….

exhausting, happy, fun, challenging, crazy.

What did you wish you knew before having children?

How much I would love being a mam.

What has been the hardest thing in motherhood for you?

Definitely the sleep deprivation. Both my kids have been terrible sleepers and I’m knackered.

When things get tough in motherhood you……

bitch to my tribe. This might be my ma, sister or partner. Or, I have a group of online friends who have the same parenting values as me and they always listen with empathy or offer constructive advice. I’m very lucky to have found them.

What do you feel guilty about as mum?

Blogging – ever since I’ve started I feel like it takes away time that I should be focused on them. Its hard to get the right balance. Or going to my office job and having to put them in child care.

When was the last time you lost your s*** at your child/children?

A couple of nights ago they were fighting over me while climbing on me as I was trying to eat my dinner and I ended up shouting ‘just leave me alone will you’ at them. I was running on empty after a rough day with 2 hours broken sleep.

What makes you feel bad as a mum?

When I lose it and shout at my kids. Or when I’m really exhausted and someone tells me how great their kids sleep.

And what makes you feel good as a mum?

When my 5 year old tells me he loves me and gives me a big hug to ‘fill me up with love’. Or when my toddler loses her latch smiling up at me when breastfeeding.

The universal sods law of being a mum is…..

The baby will shit in its nappy as soon as you have changed it.

What is the greatest lesson being a mum has taught you?

That I am actually maternal after all – I was convinced that I wasn’t!
