Balneum dry skin and itch relief cream and shampoo review

We are a bit of an itchy household to say the least. During the winter months, I suffer with eczema on my hands, and during the summer, it’s eczema on my creases. My significant other lurches from general dry skin to massive eczema flare ups whilst our daughter, thus far…suffers mainly with skin irritation in the winter months and summer months.

With a skin backcatalogue like that, it’s fair to say we have tried MANY different products to help ease the itch and soothe our skin, and we will try anything that can provide a steroid free solution to our own version of The Itchy and Scratchy show.

So when I was asked by Mumsnet to test out two Balneum products – the Balneum dry skin and itch relief Cream as well as the dry and itchy scalp relief shampoo to say I was keen was an understatement. So off I went to put away the Sebamed, E45 and Oilatum…because we were making the switch over to Balneum in the hope that we would itch less, live more.

If you haven’t heard of Balneum before, let me give you a quick little intro: Balneum Cosmetics is a complete line of skincare products providing expert relief from dry and itchy skin. Suitable for families and children over the age of three, the Balneum cosmetic range will re-hydrate skin, leaving it feeling soothed and nourished.

The Balneum dry skin and itch relief Cream has a dual action formula containing active ingredients of 3% Laureth-6.5% and 5% Urea.It promises  to hydrate the skin and relieve itch within 5 minutes.

So how did the dry skin and itch relief cream measure up?

Instant relief

With the recent heat this has been a great time for us to test out the range because our skin has been irritated to say the least. Both my daughter and I had episodes on our arms and legs, and on each instance we used the Balneum relief Cream and yes – the relief was instant! Not only that, it was so easily absorbed and super hydrating. After such a promising start, the cream became our absolute go-to over the four weeks of testing it out!

Long lasting

I often find with a cream the effect only lasts so long (unless it’s a nasty steroid cream – gah!) but with this one, it was a one-time application that lasted all day….and beyond. In fact it was so hard working I didn’t have to reapply the cream on the affected area again after that – amazing! Time and time again during the weeks we used this I was amazed at how it kept itchy skin at bay. You would never have realised I had a flare up on this arm just a couple of days would you?

Neutral smell

Another great thing about the cream is that it smells neutral so none of these strange almost pharmaceutical smells that some other creams I have tried have. Hurrah!

Verdict on the dry skin and itch Cream

9/10 – only because I never give anything 10 out of 10!

Next up – the Balneum dry and itchy scalp relief Shampoo. I suffer from dry itchy and flaky scalp on and off but despite this I am always reluctant to make the switch over to a dedicated shampoo because I usually find the way that my hair styles afterwards is terrible! So to say I was dubious about how this shampoo would work for me was an understatement.

The Balneum dry and itchy scalp relief Shampoo is a gentle, soap-free formulation that promotes healthy hair and scalp through hydration. Containing climbazole 3% and pro-vitamin B5 (panthenol), it promises to  cleanse away dirt (without resorting to harsh chemicals that can aggravate or even damage skin), fight dandruff, soothe itchy scalp and leave the hair smooth and shiny. The last bit I had to see to believe….!

So how did the dry and itchy scalp relief Shampoo measure up?

No dandruff in sight

Literally nothing, right from the get-go and throughout the weeks after that –  enough said.

No more itchy scalp

I have literally not had to itch my scalp once since using this shampoo. Even after day three of not washing. Incredible. It also smells so neutral that it can also be used by my other half…when he remembers to wash his hair.

My hair looks amazing

I literally can’t believe this one, but my hair looks the best it’s looked in a long time. It’s usually frizzy and dry but somehow it really does look smooth and shiny and incredibly healthy.

Verdict on the dry and itchy scalp relief Shampoo

9/10 – well again, you know why that is! Although I am seriously tempted to give this one a 10 out of 10 because not only does it fulfil it’s promises 100% but my hair looks great.

As you can see, Balneum has really been helping our family to itch less, live more and if you’re looking for products that can soothe your itch pretty much straight sway, and which will help you start changing the way you feel about your skin, I would highly recommend you give their products a try.

  1. Love the idea of this product, I haven’t heard of this company before so I’ll have a snoop see what other products they do!

I am the opposite so it be great if they have a variety of products.

    Love Patrice x

  2. Seems like a great product but is there anything that would suit my skin. I have a extremely sensitive skin. During summer due to humidity it is extremely oily and in winter it’s very dry

  3. So glad this product worked well for you! I don’t suffer from eczema, but I do often have a dry/itchy scalp. I wonder how this product would fair in curly hair!

  7. Oh that’s bad! I can’t stand the itch as well, especially when it’s so hot and we are all sweaty. I have skin allergies, too. This is a nice skin product. You giving it a 10 gives me hope. 😀

  8. I’m very tempted give it a go as I suffer from dry skin problems myself. Especially the shampoo sounds fantastic. Thank you for testing it for us

  9. I have dermatitis in my right hand that wouldn’t go away. My skin is itchy, dry, and cracking. I’m willing to try this product if we have it here in my country.

  10. I have been having some dry and itchy skin issues myself of late. I definitely could use a product like this. I will have to see where I can find it.
