Planning a trip in the near future? If you want to enjoy your holiday to the fullest, be sure concerns about your empty home don’t ruin your experience. There are several things you can do before you go on holiday that will help keep your home safe and make your return from your trip go smoothly. Use these tips to get everything in shape at home before you leave so you can enjoy a worry-free travel experience.

Conserve Energy

While you’re away on your trip, you won’t be using any electronics at home. For that reason, it’s always smart to turn off all devices before you leave, such as your computer, DVD player, cable box, Wi-Fi router, and television. Anything you plug in continues to drain a small amount of energy, even when it’s turned off. You should also unplug some of your other appliances, such as toasters, to protect against power surges. Don’t forget to adjust your thermostat as well; you can keep your home at temperatures that will require less heating or cooling to save on energy costs.

Tackle Household Chores

Coming home to a dirty house is never fun. After your trip, you’ll be so tired that the last thing you’ll want to do is take care of a long list of chores. Get your household tasks out of the way so you can come back to a nice clean house after your trip. Tidy up the clutter around the house, and do some vacuuming and dusting. Clean the fridge, and make sure to toss any food that will go bad before your return. Do your laundry and change your bedding so you have clean clothes to wear and clean beds to sleep in when you get back.

Consider Gadgeting Up

We live in a world where there are so many apps and smart devices designed to protect your home, that even when you are away you can have peace of mind. From smart doorlocks, to video doorbells, smart plugs to switch your lights on and off whilst you are gone and even automated pet monitors, there is plenty to choose from.

One of our favourite acquisitions has been the EZVIZ C3TN Color Smart Home Camera. Our house has an alleyway at the bank which I am always so paranoid about as I constantly think someone is going to climb over our fence and into our back garden from it.

The EZVIZ C3N comes with three night vision modes and AI-powered person detection capability, providing you with sharp nighttime monitoring and precise real time alerts.

Since installing this outdoor Wifi camera out in our back garden, I am no longer fretting about potential uninvited guests accessing the back garden whilst we are away and it really has taken a load off my mind as I can rest easy knowing everything is protected while we’re away. As Someone To Check In

If you’ll be gone for more than a day or two, ask a friend to stop by to check on your home. He or she can collect your mail, water plants, feed the cat, and do other small tasks while there. This is a great deterrent for theft, and it also gives you the peace of mind knowing that someone is keeping an eye on the house and can alert you if anything is amiss. If you don’t have a friend who’s able to help out, find a reputable local business that can provide this service for you.

Make sure your home is safe and sound while you’re away by following this pre-travel checklist. These simple steps will also make your return to your home sweet home that much sweeter.
