It’s something any business owner has had to do – juggling your business and family life.

The bottom line is, it’s hard to juggle personal responsibilities with business, especially if you are also trying to balance a family life. Even the most successful icons in business don’t always get it right.

So how do you go about juggling your business and family life, and create just the right balance between maintaining your business and keeping your family sustained and happy? Here are 5 top tips for juggling your business and family life, and becoming a master of both.

Master the Art of Saying No

This means creating those all-important boundaries, and being mindful of how much work you can, and can’t handle.

In 2021, a UK government study showed that 50% of all work-related health issues were reported to be a result of anxiety, depression or work-related stress. And while this does factor in the Covid-19 pandemic, it’s still a huge number.

Be Smart with Your Recruitment

Using an external company to help with your recruitment process will take most of the hassle away from trying to keep on top of all the paperwork.

Companies such as Oleeo use artificial intelligence to help select the best candidates for the job in a matter of days, leaving your time free to contend with more pressing matters.

Carve out specified family time

Invest in a family calendar, whether physical or virtual.

Find a time that suits all and schedule it as family time. Keep it a strictly work-free zone – this includes no work calls, no emails, and no meetings!

You might want to research some family-specific activities that you can all do together from the convenience of your home.

Examples include games such as Swingball or table tennis that can be played in competitive teams to build relationships. You may find this will also encourage you to be more active if you have an office-based role.

Look after Your Body

It sounds obvious, but it’s something that most of us struggle with.

Be intuitive to what your body needs, and eat well, sleep well, and take time to relax.

Eat a balanced diet, get 8 hours of sleep every night, and indulge in at least 1 activity every day that promotes your well-being.

This could include more traditional forms of self-care such as meditation or yoga. However, it could also just consist of indulging in an activity or hobby that you enjoy.

There are some great apps that exist for guiding mindfulness such as Calm, which uses soundtracks, stories, and exercises to encourage stillness and serenity before sleep.

Get Help When You Need It

Sometimes things fall beyond our control, and it’s important to check-in with yourself to make sure you’re staying afloat.

If, for whatever reason, life is getting too much, book in an appointment with a GP to help get you back on track.

Alternatively, you can use a mental health well-being text messaging service such as Shout, who specialise in mental health crisis management.
