When it comes to going out for Mother’s Day, sometimes it’s the theatre that can get your kids in your good books. Everyone loves escaping to different worlds now and again, and while the age of Netflix is sweeping over, viewing performances live in front of you is a whole other experience entirely. Moreover, many of the theatre bigwigs are saying that theatre is now more affordable than ever, and they’re not lying either!

Where better to go for your theatre needs than the West End? Some of the best productions in the world are being performed there, so get yourself some season train tickets and enjoy all the shows to your hearts content. It’s never been more accessible for all!

So with that said, here some West End shows you should consider seeing this Mother’s Day…

Mamma Mia

Mamma Mia has been a hit with mums everywhere, both on stage and off. Filled to the brim with cheesy ABBA tunes, Mamma Mia tells the story of a young woman trying to discover the identity of her father on the eve of her romantic wedding in a Greek island paradise. This is the sort of thing most mums would definitely enjoy!

While the film was a box office smash, the theatrical version has gone to enjoy success in the West End too. The production is staged at The Novello Theatre, located in Aldwych, Covent Garden. It’s within a walkable distance from Euston Station, so by all means, hop on a train for some very affordable theatre! Tickets start from £21!

Only Fools and Horses

The story of Del Boy, Rodney, Grandad has swept into the hearts of everyone in the UK by now. The characters are considered national treasures by many today, and now, they’re taking a turn in a full-on West End musical in the heart of London! You can’t go wrong with a bit of Only Fools and Horses!

The show is extremely faithful to the televised series, from everything to the sets, gags and costuming. It’s all there on stage, being performed live with actors who’re the next best thing to David Jason, Nicholas Lyndhurst, and the rest of the gang! The production can be found at Theatre Royal Haymarket, right in the heart of London! Tickets start from £24!

The Lion King

Now this is the one I’ve got my eye on! If you’re a mum with younger kids (or 20 somethings who rightly won’t let go of Disney classics), then The Lion King in London’s Lyceum Theatre is a great choice that will please the whole family. It’s been running in the West End for over a whopping 18 years, which means that there must be something in this production, right? The production is a success story unlike any other!

The staging, the classic tunes, the gripping narrative – it’s all there and more adrenaline filled than ever before. Some of the puppets in this staged spectacular are mesmerising too, and you’ll leave the theatre wondering how on earth they pulled it all off! Tickets are from £39, but make no mistake, it’s worth every penny!
