As the days begin to shorten and the nights and mornings get longer and darker, many homeowners park their home improvement ideas and projects until the first green shoots of Spring see daylight.
But should you? Here are some practical and impactful home improvement ideas and projects you can start right away and that will continue to brighten and renew your home all through the end of 2018 and the start of 2019!
Let there be light!
Light is at a premium in the dark days so you need to maximise as much natural light as you can, when you can. Keeping the lights burning will push your energy bills up and when the sunshine does push through the dark and the dank, you want to get as much of it into your rooms as possible.
One ideal solution that will also bring great advantages in the lighter months is by installing some Aluminium bifold doors to maximise your outlook and turn your outdoor surroundings into an extension of your room.
Put a new coat on
Whether it’s been six months or six years since you last repainted your rooms, a new coat of paint in a slightly or entirely different colour can bring any room in the home to life and reinvigorate it in the winter. A bright vibrant colour can certainly raise the mood if the weather takes a turn for the worst.
Another benefit of fitting bifold doors is that when you redecorate your main room, you will have adequate ventilation from paint fumes that otherwise have trouble escaping.
Cutting a rug
Polished and bare wooden floors look great but in the winter nothing feels better than carpet under bare feet. Even if you aren’t going to go to the expense of recarpeting a room and replacing threadbare or worn carpet, strategically placing rugs or mats onto a wooden covered floor will give you the best of both worlds and give the kids valuable islands when they play “the floor is lava!”
Spring clean early
Getting a head start on your spring cleaning is a great idea. Not only does decluttering give you more space in your home but will help you get organised before the Christmas decorations go up and help you have keep on top of the clutter coming back in with the Spring.
Smarten the smallest room
The bathroom is probably the one room that requires refreshing the most often due to the daily use and wear and tear it is put through over the year. Whether it needs regrouting to get rid of mould and mildew, old paint and tiles replacing with modern new ones or updating equipment, it can all be done in Winter bit by bit.
Every time you visit you will see the small improvements you have done and can take pride that it is slowly but surely coming along, just like the winter sunshine as it climbs to its highest point in the sky!
