It won’t be long before half term is upon us again and you find yourself struggling to think of what to do this half term with the children. Of course, this will be weather dependent but ideally, the more you can get your children up from the sofa and out of the house is a good thing so they do not spend the week glued to their phones or ipads. These are some ideas to get you started.

Dining Out Again

This is something that you probably took for granted before and might be towards the top of the list, the ability to all go out for a family meal again will be something enjoyable to do and certainly make a nice change from cooking at home. With many restaurants ensuring that they reopen in a safe and Covid secure manner you can easily make a QR code to help you decide where to eat with the children. There will probably be a long list of restaurants to revisit again as it has been such a while since you have all been out together for food.

Play Board Games

It does not need to be Christmas to get Monopoly out or any other classic family board games you have at home which usually just make a yearly appearance around the festive holidays. Try spending a few hours with them playing board games that incorporate general knowledge or something creative like Pictionary which also includes drawing from memory.

Appreciating Natural Beauty With History Thrown In

There are an abundance of places that incorporate history and natural beauty under the National Trust scheme. Try heading out for a day trip to somewhere you have not been before that allows them to learn about British history and also has a stunning backdrop so that they are free to roam and explore new surroundings.

Pet The Ponies

If you live in a city area then the last thing your children will be used to seeing are horses and farm animals. You could take them on a day trip to a farm which allows you to interact and feed the animals. They might enjoy seeing them up close and learning about farm life. It will certainly be a new experience if they have never been before.

Allow Them To Be Creative

Children can have wonderful imaginations and creativity if they have the opportunity to let their minds explore. Try to sit down with them and write your own story together or do a creative task which involves creating a piece of artwork or making an object. You might be surprised at how much they enjoy doing this, which will certainly make a change from staring at the tv.
