My 7 favourite things to do in Surrey

things to do in Surrey

I am very blessed to live in an amazing spot which crosses over between greater London and the beautiful sprawling leafy enclave that is Surrey. We are blessed with so many parks, country pubs, and fantastic days out that quite frankly, wondering what to do never lasts very long. I’ve teamed up with Chill Insurance to share with you my favourite things to do in Surrey and around where I live:

Fruit & vegetable picking at Garson’s Farm

Visiting a picking farm is a great day out for all the family, and Garson’s Farm is an amazing spot to do just that with more than 30 different crops grown over 150 acres, which makes it the largest Pick Your Own farm in the UK. It’s fab for perfectly ripe soft fruits like strawberries and raspberries, fresh vegetables such as runner beans and peas and even beautiful seasonal sunflowers! A brilliant way to get children understanding where food actually comes from too.

Exploring the grounds of Hampton Court Palace

things to do in Surrey

I have been visiting Hampton Court Palace since I myself was a child and it never looses its magic or appeal. To me, it’s not so much about the palace itself (although of course it is seriously impressive!)but the incredible grounds there which are at their best during spring and summer. We have spent many hours meandering around the rose gardens smelling every possibly variety of rose that we can, playing hide and seek in the woodland garden, marvelling at the vegetable garden, having a picnic or an ice-cream, and of course having lots of fun at the Magic Garden which is a veritable wonderland for children.

Kite flying in Bushy Park

Life is never dull with a kite in hand, and for a free activity, the spot behind the pond by the carpark at the Hampton Court side at Bushy Park is a fantastic place for a spot of exhilarating kite flying.

Chilling at a riverside pub

In our little nook, we are absolutely spoilt for choice when it comes to riverside pubs. Here are some of my favourites which I would highly recommend checking out:

Mooching around the farmer’s markets

things to do in Surrey

There is nothing like mooching around a farmer’s market at the weekend to stock up on some fresh goodies. Being on the Surrey/London borders I have to say that our favourite is Chiswick Farmer’s Market because it’s located next to an amazing adventure playground and has a big field next door for picnics so a massive win for the whole family! Closer to home are the Thames Ditton and Surbiton Farmer’s Markets.

Playing in the greenbelt

It has to be said, I am NOT a fan of soft plays or play cafes in general but thankfully we are really lucky to have a gorgeous play cafe called Piglets Play Cafe which is set in acres of beautiful greenbelt with an indoor and outdoor play area with resident animals and even pony rides on offer!

Adventuring by or on the river

things to do in surrey

We are so lucky to live so close by to the River Thames which is so fantastic to explore on so many different levels whether it’s lunch at Riverside Walk in Kingston, or a spot of feeding the ducks just down the way from us in Sunbury, there are also lots of opportunities to take a boat trip down from Hampton Court to Kingston (or the other way!) with Turks Launches and we love to visit our local Hampton Ferry Boathouse to hire a boat for a few hours.

Do you live in Surrey and have a favourite spot to add? Do leave a comment below if so. And if you enjoyed this post why not check out this post on the best museums in London for children.

  1. I’ve been to Hampton Court Palace many times as I was filming a documentary there, but other highlights, such as the PYO farm sound great and had gone under my radar. Thanks for sharing.

  2. Considering I now live so close to Surrey (just over here in Berkshire, hello!), I haven’t done any of these. I was thinking about a trip to a pick your own though, so will check out Garsons x

  3. I am yet to venture to surrey but now I have an idea of what I can look forward to on my visit. Farmers market definitely got my attention
