These days, new parents are so damned organised that it can be really hard to know what on earth to give them to mark the arrival of their new bundle of joy. If you have been busy researching the best gifts for new parents, and you’ve hit a wall, then you have come to the right place, my friends! Here we share our recommended best gifts for new parents that the new parents in your life will definitely thank you for.

Food related gift cards

The last thing any new parent wants to do after nights of sleep deprivation is have to cook! Save them from slaving away at the stove by gifting them a gift card for Deliveroo or Just Eat and hear their collective sigh of relief when the delivery man rocks up that evening. Other great options are gift cards from COOK (think posh ready-mades), or M&S Dine In.

Babysitting for a night out

If there’s one thing parents really need to do after having a baby it’s to reconnect again as human beings. Offering to babysit so they can have a night out together just the two of them is absolutely priceless. You could also couple this with a gift card to eat at their restaurant of choice – how could they say no to that?!

A coffee machine

Parenthood is powered by two things – love and coffee. So make sure the new parents in your life are off to a good start by ensuring they have a coffee machine in prime position in their kitchen. And because new parents obviously don’t have all the time in the world, make sure you do your research and get them a fast coffee maker at that.

Baby hampers

Whether you want to create your own baby hamper or buy a baby hamper, baby hampers can be a lovely gift for new parents. They do a great job of ticking all the boxes including items for baby care like baby lotion, oils, shampoo, wipes, nappy rash cream, nappies; practical items like a baby thermometer, a dummy, bottles, bibs, bath towels, sponges, a hooded bath gown as well as baby clothes (see more on that below), plush toys and accessories, baby books as well as presents for mum and dad.

Baby clothes – but only from 6-9 months onwards!

Step away from those ridiculously cute and tiny newborn and 0-3 months outfits immediately! As gorgeous as they are, parents are usually swamped with clothing and accessories for 0-3 months. With that said clothing from 6-9 months when there seems to suddenly be a massive drop in supply can be really helpful. If buying ahead just make sure you buy baby clothes that are appropriate for the season and weather they will be living through at that age.

A spa day

If the parents are happy to leave their new bundle of joy for a night or even just a few hours, a spa break or afternoon is an amazing gift of quiet and self-indulgence. It’s also the perfect way to reconnect and step away from constant nappy changes and feeding.

Sleep sacks & swaddles

If only I had discovered sleep sacks earlier on in parenthood, I would have been overjoyed. Sleepsacks literally changed my life, and although you can get them in a more swaddle style from newborn up, many parents are missing a trick here. So do the new parents in your life a favour and gift them a newborn swaddle/sleep sack like this one from Jojo Maman Bebe. I promise you it will be revelationary!

Nappies!

One thing new parents soon realise is that….you can never have too many nappies! Obviously, handing over a load of Pampers doesn’t exactly feel ceremonious, but a more creative away of gifting nappies is to create a nappy cake. More on what a nappy cake is and how you can create your own nappy cake here. Alternatively, if the parents are looking to use reusable nappies you can also gift them a reusable nappy voucher.
