How to afford an electric car in 2023 with Tusker

*This is part of a paid partnership with Tusker and Nissan

With the sale of new petrol and diesel cars being phased out by 2030, have you been thinking of making the change to an electric car as we have in our family? Perhaps you have been wondering how you will be able to afford an electric car seeing as at the moment they can still seem pretty pricey? Well, I’ve got news for you, because I want to let you know about a fantastic life hack that will enable you to afford an electric car – and it’s called Tusker.

What is Tusker?

Tusker is an award-winning Car Benefit company that provides comprehensive car schemes that benefit absolutely everyone. They make it ridiculously easy to drive a brand new car like this Nissan LEAF (more on that below!) and enjoy all the savings with none of the hassles. Through their Salary Sacrifice Car Scheme, Tusker enables employees to own a high-value electric car very cost-effectively – including insurance and maintenance costs.

Tell me more!

The salary sacrifice car scheme is simple. Much like Cycle to Work and childcare voucher schemes, employees exchange some of their salaries in return for a brand new maintained and insured electric car. It’s a great perk and means employees and their families can enjoy a nice new set of wheels and afford an electric car without any deposit or ongoing running costs including road tax, insurance, MOTs, breakdown assistance and repair bills. It really is the easiest way to run a brand new electric vehicle. So be gone any fears about the cost of owning and running an EV with a busy work and family life!

Salary sacrifice is already used by a large number of organisations for a wide range of their employee benefits and is a brilliant way of enabling you to afford an electric car. It also has the potential to help you achieve income tax and National Insurance savings depending on which electric vehicle you choose.

Fleet Evolution/What are salary sacrifice schemes?

At Fleet Evolution they are always looking for ways to help their clients reduce their taxable income and save money. With a salary sacrifice car scheme, you agree to give up part of your salary in return for a non-cash benefit. This could be anything from childcare vouchers to cycle to work schemes. The great thing about salary sacrifice schemes is that not only do they make saving for an electric car easier, but they also reduce your taxable income.

A quote from Andrew Leech, Director of Fleet Evolution:

“My advice to any business or individual looking to go electric would be to explore the possibility of a salary sacrifice car scheme. Not only will this make affording an electric vehicle much easier, but it could also help save you money in the long run.”

So, if you are looking for a way to afford an electric car, then a salary sacrifice scheme could be the perfect solution for you. And if you want to take advantage of the fantastic savings that Fleet Evolution has to offer, then you can read this informative blog for more information https://www.fleetevolution.com/salary-sacrifice-cars-how-do-they-work/.

The Nissan Leaf – the ideal electric car for a family

We teamed up with Tusker for a chance to drive one of their electric vehicles for the weekend and safe to say we are now absolutely sold! Our Nissan LEAF was the perfect car for our hectic family life and drove like a dream. Think a smooth, eco-friendly drive offering punchy performance which is perfect for the practicalities of family life.

For those nervous about charging, it offers excellent range – the Nissan LEAF can travel up to 226 miles on a full charge. So running constant family errands as is standard in this parent life is no problem. It’s also super easy to charge – you can just leave it plugged into your home grid overnight and be ready to roll the next morning.

Although it looks very sleek and stylish from the outside, we were pleasantly surprised by the nice amount of interior space. It also had all the modern systems that can keep all the family happy while out and about on the road. As a family car, it gets a 10 out of 10 from us!

Making electric vehicles more cost effective

So as you can see, driving an electric vehicle like the Nissan LEAF is a no brainer for a family. It has space for all of the family, with zero tailpipe emissions. But what about the cost? Thankfully if you opt for electric vehicle ownership through Tusker you can do so at a really low cost, without concerns regarding insurance or vehicle maintenance. Instead of paying for the high expense of a new EV, servicing and insurance by using Tusker you can reduce those costs dramatically, afford an electric car and take away all of the associated hassles. So it’s good for you and better for the planet, which equals smiles all round!
