A recipe for parenting

recipe for parenting

The other day I was listening to the radio and the presenter read out a really lovely poem which was a recipe for love. Of course – it got me thinking..how would this translate to a recipe for parenting? And so here it is:

Two cups of love

Two ounces of hugs

A sprinkle of grey hairs

And a quart of multitasking

A boatload of laundry

And a heaped helping of endless tidying up

AΒ gallon of tears, and a gallon of giggles

A few grams of sleep deprivation

Plus a generous portion of ear-bursting shrieks

A gill of stress and hair-tearing moments

A kilo of pride, packed as tightly as can be

A dot of compromise, creamed into a bumpy paste

A good dash or nonsense and a drizzle of fake

A grating of wonder and a big slice of adventure

And don’t forget to lace the whole thing with the greatest challenge that can be

Mince it and marinate it, reduce it and roast

Simmer and stir-fry it, and whisk it to the bone

At the end of the recipe, whatever you will get

Will be quite different, we promise, to the recipe at the outset!

  1. Haha, very good! I’d probably mention the food everywhere, floor, walls, ceiling, hair (his and mine) and the bath time soakings! Seriously how do they splash so far?! Lovely poem! πŸ™‚ x

  2. Oh I just love It! Definetly put a smile on my face for sure. It’s a crazy job being a parent but so worth it! #coolmumclub

  3. I’d finish it off by pickling it. Random fact about me…I LOVE vinegar, and lets face it us parents mainly self medicate by pickling with booze ha ha!
xx PInning this to my favourite recipe board…honestly πŸ˜‰
