Six fantastic colorful trees for your garden

trees for your garden

As you know, we love spending time outside and I have written previously about things you can do in the garden with kids including planting a tree. Gardens are wonderful places for kids to play and blow off steam. They are close enough for you to see, and usually hear them. Provided your garden is properly secure, you do not need to watch them every moment.

It is a space that is well worth investing a bit of your money in. The more pleasant you make your garden the more time you and your kids will want to spend there. Trees are a great way to enhance the look of your garden. Below are a few of my favorites. As you will see, they are all bright and vibrant, which makes them ideal for adding a splash of color to any garden.

Crape Myrtles

If you are looking for a colorful tree, look no further than Crape or Crepe myrtles. To say they are spectacular is an understatement. Their bright red, lilac, white or pink flowers are stunning, adding a splash of color to any garden. You can easily buy Crape Myrtle from The Tree Center. They sell several varieties including the very popular Enduring Summer Lavender Crape Myrtle.

Redbuds

The Western and Oklahoma Redbuds are extremely beautiful trees. They flower along the entire length of their branches, creating a stunning effect. Once established, these trees are extremely easy to maintain and because they do not have leaves they do not cast much of a shadow. Meaning, that they do not cast too much of a shadow. In a small garden, the last thing you need is for a large percentage of your flower beds to be in the shade for much of the day.

Cherries and plums

Some varieties and of cherry and plum trees produce simply stunning flowers during the spring. Plus, of course, there is the added benefit that you can enjoy the fruits, in the summer.  The lilac flowers of the Double Flowering Plum are particularly pretty and the Higan cherry is pretty too.

Fringe trees

If you are looking for something a little different, a fringe tree is ideal. The beautiful white flowers are very unusual. The petals are string shaped, a bit like really fine tassels. When the tree is in flower your whole garden will be filled with a light lilac- like perfume. In the fall, the leaves turn a beautiful hue of yellow.

Jacaranda

In hot parts of the world, the stunning Jacaranda tree is a great addition to any garden. The purple flowers you get during the spring are simply stunning.

The pink trumpet tree

If you are looking for something a bit unusual, the pink trumpet tree is a particularly good option. As the name indicates, each of these flowers is shaped like a little trumpet.

Caring for your flowering trees

Once established none of the above trees take a lot of care. However, if you want them to bloom reliably year after year, fertilizing them is a good idea. You can learn the right way to do this by reading a few of the posts on this gardening blog. In the meantime, why not read on to find out more about how you can get children outside and engaging with nature.
