About me

Hi there, my name is Talya…

about me

Welcome to Motherhood: The Real Deal.  I’m a former Editor in Chief turned parenting blogger, who lives with Mr C in Greater London, our eight year old daughter and puppy Millie.

I started Motherhood: The Real Deal back in 2015 on the back of the pure frustration (and of course amazing experience!) I was experiencing throughout my transition into motherhood. I created this platform to get the conversation going on the issues and struggles so many of us mums experience throughout our motherhood journey. It grew. And it GREW. And IT GREW.

Probably because a lot of other mums felt the same as I did!

Because after all, 20% being a mum looks like me here….

and the rest of the time, well the picture might not be quite as pretty!

More about me

Having given up the working mum role when her daughter turned 12 months,  I have sat on both sides of the fence as a working and then stay-at-home mum and like many,  grappled with the issues which come hand in hand with both scenarios in modern day motherhood and now life as a freelance mum.

I initially cut my teeth in Public Relations, and then at one of the world’s leading Museums – the Victoria and Albert – then co-founded a leading online lifestyle platform during our stint living in Asia  – City Nomads (a bit like a Time Out for Singapore). I now use this corner of the internet to share my experiences and opinions on motherhood, parenting, family life and the world in general.

I love empowering other women, supporting mums, constantly doing up my home, dancing, decluttering, healthy living, high street fashion, books, fitness, can-do people, exploring Britain, any form of mum pampering, nature, Netflix, cooking and laughter among many other things. I am also the co-founder of the online women’s magazine 40 Now What.

  7. hi Talya, just a couple of your comps. listening to your vid about sleep. sometimes we can think about a problem to much, I brought my two children up from babies 3 months and 21 months. I had no help at all and can appreciate there is little time for sleep. Other than that I would advise running for as long as you can go every day. even if it is a short distance. and come off that computer and mobile at at least two hours before bed time. These days I have learnt to hypnotize my self to sleep. takes no more than a couple of minutes. if I be of any more help, then please email. if not then take care

    • Thanks so much for the tips – I find I have to exercise daily otherwise sleep can be a battle. Sadly I can no longer run as I did my knee in a few years back and it’s still sensitive but I put my mobile to bed at 7.30/8pm and that really helps! I do a little self hypnosis too 🙂

  8. Glad I came across you blog, your tips and advice has really hit home. What has caught my attention is the deeper struggle we have and balancing, rather multitasking between several responsibilities ourself, the home and the family. It is not easy.

Just wanted to say thank you so much for thinking about the children when creating your giveaways/competitions during such a challenging time and national restriction.
