This makes the rooms of your home far more attractive and ultimately, it really does help you to create the house that you want rather than the one that you’ve got.

Whether you’re renovating based on personal preference or you want to make better use of your surroundings, you need to choose how to plan home renovations from start to finish. 1 Make some key decisions.

Do you know where to begin when it comes to your home renovation? The first and most important step of the project is figuring out what area of the home you want renovated first. Whether it’s a partial renovation in the form of a new bathroom or a light, bright open plan kitchen dining area, you need to think about whether the house needs a top to bottom transformation or just a small one at first. You should take as much time as you need to with your whole plan because you want to make as many good decisions as possible before construction. It’s starting to knock down walls if you’re not sure what you want to be in each room.

2 Set yourself a realistic renovation budget.

Once you’ve set yourself an ideal budget, you need to then add around 10 to 20% on top of it to aim for savings. The amount that you spend on your home renovation will depend on how much work you want to undertake and the time that this will take. In the long run. You can save some money by doing it yourself, but if you’ve never done a renovation before then you might consider that this is going to be too much work. You also want to be able to budget for the inevitables of things going wrong. Obviously nobody wants things to go wrong, but if you don’t plan for it then you’re not going to be covered if something does go beyond your budget in the first place.

3 Get more than one quote.

As nice as it is to approach a business and get the quote that you’re looking to get, it’s always smart to approach. At minimum for companies. Once you know what you’d like to do with your home and the budget that you have to play with, you have to make sure that you have the right people to bring all of your vision to life. Getting a good idea of the average cost of the work that you want done is nice, but then you can ask the same companies to come out and give you a more accurate quote when they see the space. It’s never been easier to now to renovate, but you do need to make sure that you can find the right price, the right budget and the right people to do the job. Don’t forget, no matter how nice the people are that you speak to, when it comes to getting those quotes, you need to see examples of their work and references from previous customers. Never go in blind without doing your research because as professional as a company can look on paper, they may not have the reviews that you would be looking for.

4 Get planning permission.

If necessary, you need to make sure that you are getting any permits or any planning permissions that you need. You cannot cover a house renovation without making sure that you are backed up by the Planning Commission. The last thing that you want is to put an extension onto your home only for the council to ask you to tear it down because it’s not regulated. You don’t want to change your homes through flying or add a deck where you might be asked to remove it later on because it’s just going to be a waste of your money and a waste of everybody’s time. Planning applications can be expensive, but if you don’t have that application approved, then don’t go ahead with the renovation works.
