Active parents? The benefits of exercising with family

active parents

Are you active parents? Then I bet you will have already considered the benefits of exercising with family. Everyone always talks about how exercise is an essential part of life, but have you stopped to consider all the ways it could change your family’s life? If you and your children have a habit of doing sedentary activities together then introducing a bit more exercise into your weekends can have a transformative effect. Whether you decide to book a session with City of London personal trainers for yourself and your partner or enroll the little ones in after-school badminton, here are some positive changes you may begin to notice.

Active parents & benefits of exercising with family

Improved fitness

One of the biggest changes you’ll notice when you and your family start working out is how much better your overall fitness will be. Your kids will be able to run further without getting tired while you might be able to carry more bags of shopping from the car to your kitchen. But it’s not just these immediate effects that will benefit you. In the long-term, being fit and healthy can decrease your and your children’s chances of developing certain diseases, allowing you to have more fun together for years to come.

Calmer and more relaxed

Exercise doesn’t just benefit your body, it also has a positive impact on your mind and mental health. If you or your children are prone to stress and anxiety, working out will help you to feel more centred and happier. To really make more of a connection between your physical body and your mindfulness practice, consider adding yoga to your routine. At the end of your session, it’s easy to spend some time doing a quick mediation as well. However, even just going out for a bike ride or working up a sweat will help your family to clear their heads.

Better relationships

Families who sweat together stay together. Performing a shared activity like cycling or playing sports can help you and your children to strengthen your relationship and feel closer. To really build your sense of solidarity, involve some other families in your sports sessions and play against them. This friendly competition can encourage children to feel a sense of belonging while interacting with people outside of their family as well.

Saving money

Exercise is an incredibly cheap pastime, especially if many of your family activities take place outdoors. If you currently spend a lot of money at the cinema, at theme parks or eating out, your family’s finances could be transformed by getting out into nature more. Whether it’s hiking in the mountains, bodyboarding at the beach or cycling along city streets, you’ll be saving a small fortune once you have all the initial costs out of the way. This will give you more money to spend on holidays, education or renovating your home.

Exercising has a whole host of benefits for your family, as you can see above. But the most important thing you have to remember is that exercise can be fun. While working out for your health is a great motive, if both you and your kids have a great time, then you’re really doing something right.
