Do not open to strangers

Do not leave valuable objects in sight
Leaving valuables in sight is not a good option when our house is uninhabited . In the event that someone breaks into our home, having expensive objects and important documents in sight will greatly increase the losses we suffer. When you go away, these important objects and papers should be kept in safe places. Drawers and cabinets are typical places that thieves inspect. We advise you to have a safe so that these objects are practically impossible to steal. Another reason for not having valuable objects in sight is that it can be decisive for the “thieves” to decide whether or not to rob your house. On summer days they look for empty houses with easy access. But they usually only bother to break into a home if they think it’s worth it. If in their first eye inspections they do not detect anything of value, it is most likely that they will save themselves the “hassle” of forcing your door or one of your windows.
Give a copy of the key to someone
Avoid leaving the keys hidden in flower pots, doormats and blinds, all these practices are well known to thieves. These actions make things too easy to enter our home. If we want someone to monitor the state of the house from time to time, it is best to hand them a copy of the key personally.
Leave clothes hanging
It is an imaginative solution: leave the occasional piece of clothing hanging on the line, so that it gives the impression that we are at home. It is not the most important advice to follow, but it helps reinforce the idea that the house is not empty. Although it is not useful for long vacations and can turn against us: if a thief returns after a week and sees that the same clothes are still hanging, not only will our trick not work, but we will also give an unequivocal signal that we are not there.
Doors and windows closed
Each of the doors and windows of the house that face the outside must be closed properly. In the case of not being, we will greatly facilitate the access of thieves. As for the blinds, it is recommended to lower most but not all, since in this way, it gives the feeling that there is someone living inside the home. Make it secure but not obvious that nobody is at home!
Leaving a light or appliance on
This is another way of pretending that the house is not empty. Leaving the light in some area of the house that faces the outside and programming a device – such as the radio – to turn on at a certain time, are two very useful practices that repel many thieves. Timers are important, which will allow us to save energy while protecting our home. You can find good ones on eBay for example.
Install an alarm
The advice that we have given you so far has been in line with preventing the thief from entering your house. However, they are practices that can do little in the event that one or more unwanted people are already inside your home. Therefore, installing an alarm is best. Many times, the tricks we have given you are not enough and do not prevent burglars from entering the home. The alarm will scare away any thief and promptly notify the police to stop it. It is not a completely working method, but it is one of the most effective.
