8 reasons winter is better than summer

Call me crazy, but I really do love Winter. So much so that I’m pretty much of the view that winter is better than summer. There is something so solid about Winter. You always know where you are with Winter: cold. Unlike summer where one day you can be sweating like a pig and then wondering where on earth the sun has gone.

Summer is a constant tease and a perpetual disappointment. Winter is like a dependable friend that won’t stand you up or mess you about. You know you can count on them. Although at heart I am a sun lover, I have come to appreciate that yes! Winter is better than summer. That’s why I’ve teamed up with Femme Luxe who are my go-to for loungewear and comfy yet stylish knitwear to share the reasons winter is better than summer.

8 reasons winter is better than summer

Cosying up in snuggly threads

Winter fashion is so much more unforgiving than summer when we are essentially in peacock look at me show off mood. So long as it’s warm and comfy who actually cares what else it is. From knitted loungwear, to super soft jumpers, jumper dresses and fur-lined boots, cute and cosy is the order of the season.

Blobbing on the sofa watching Netflix and Strictly under an actual duvet

What would be considered basic and slovenly is now de re rigour darling. Winter is the perfect time to let your inner slob loose and let your mind and body shut down into a winter slumber. Thank goodness Craig Revel Horwood can not see back into our TVs eh?

No need to keep schlepping out

During summer, it’s all – hey! it’s a glorious day out there we should go to the park after school. Winter is much less hassle – it’s freezing cold at 3.15pm and after school pick up all you need to do is go home and have a hot chocolate and warm your bones.

Christmas!

Can we go and see Santa? What about Lapland UK? Attend copious amounts of Christmas fairs? See the lights being switched on? And generally stuff in as many Christmas-themed activities like you’ve never experienced a Christmas before in your life.

In Winter not only do you get to enjoy the outrageously long count down to Christmas as soon as Bonfire Night is over, but then you get an actual big old chunk of a “holiday” where it’s ok to take time off without the fear of coming back to a bajillion emails and demands because everyone is doing the same. And then there’s all the amazing Christmas TV and movies. Just try not to kill your family on Christmas day and everything will be fine and dandy.

Getting all hygge

When it’s all dark and moody outside, the flip side to that is that you can put the fairy lights and candles on early and everything feels all magical. At a push you could even start to imagine that you live in a little Norwegian town where the sun never rises.

Plus there is something so good about coming in from the cold, kicking your boots off and feeling the warm glow of the house on your cheeks isn’t there?

Comfort food

Soups, stews, warmed-up gooey brownies and apple crumble and custard. Need we say more?

Hibernation mode

Social life in summer can be totally exhausting. You have to be here, visit this place, see that person. One of the reasons Winter is better than summer is that we all collectively go into hibernation mode, meaning that you have the perfect excuse for being a recluse.

This is far more appealing than entering into an unwitting battle of who has the most exciting social life which is the summertime standard.

Baths!

In Winter, there is no need to use self-care as a reason to indulge in a bath…it is quite simply a necessity! Soaking in a bath no longer feels frivolous but almost medical as you desperately require a steaming hot bath to warm up your bones and extremities.

So have I convinced you? Could it be that winter is better than summer? Do leave a comment and let me know if you agree or disagree below.

  1. I enjoy all the seasons but I love winter for all the reasons you mention. I love warm fires, hibernating, snuggling under a blanket watching my favorite shows AND CHRISTMAS. It’s my favorite time of year.

  2. You have explained almost all the reasons behind why winter ia better than summer. I also love because it’s a great weather for going out and traveling

  3. I love the colder weather too. It is not that I dislike summer (because I love to always have a chance to go for a swim in the pool), but I don’t like to sweat and get all sticky. Winter is snuggle weather. Delicious soups, hot cocoa, and a more relaxed daily life.

  4. I loved all your points but I love in a place where winter is brutal so I’m all about the summer vibes. Maybe if we had a milder winter I’d feel different.

  5. Hihi….it’s safe to say you have out-won me, on this one! I honestly thought summer was way better but on reading your submission, it’s still missing out on the comfort food, I see! Thanks for sharing.
