For busy mothers, life can certainly get in the way of taking care of yourself at times. From having to get the kids ready for school to struggling to find a desired gift for your child at Christmas, motherhood can leave a parent with little time to focus on themselves. It’s vitally important that mums find the time to switch off from the trials and tribulations of daily life on occasions, though, especially if you want to be the best parent you can be.
After all, it’s entirely normal to feel drained or slightly low after a tough day looking after your flesh and blood. Between constant drop-offs and the occasional sleepless night, it can be easy to get lost in the cycle of being a parent. Of course, your child should never be neglected, but there are certainly times when it’s acceptable to unwind and focus on you. If you aren’t the best version of yourself, then how do you expect to be the best parent you can possibly be, too? So, with that in mind, let’s take a look at a few simple ways you can relax for an hour or so.
Immerse yourself in an outdoor environment
Whether it’s to walk the dog in a local park or to play golf with friends at a local nine-hole course, interacting with the great outdoors is a great way to take the pressure off and unwind, but also to provide a casual workout for you to enjoy as and when it suits. Exercise is shown to boost mood, therefore making an outdoor activity a worthwhile thing to do.
Get a massage
A sure-fire way of feeling less anxious and more relaxed, getting a massage is a favoured choice for so many mums around the world. It can be a local leisure centre or through an online advertisement, but getting a massage provides a number of benefits, from making you feel more relaxed and refreshed to helping you sleep better at night.
Help someone who needs it
Not everyone is good at switching off and allocating some time to themselves. If that sounds like you and you just can’t stand the thought of focusing on yourself for a few hours, then instead of taking care of yourself, consider helping someone in and around you who needs it. It might be through volunteering at a local food bank or helping an elderly relative with some grocery shopping, but assisting others can almost certainly make you feel better as a result.

Relax with a good book or a game
Reading is a highly effective way of alleviating any stress found in life and is a readily accessible way of taking care of yourself. Buy yourself some comfortable pure silk sheets to lie down on whilst reading a book or settle down into a comfortable corner for an hour or two and be transported to another world. Additionally, if reading isn’t your thing, then gaming could well be. Popular mobile titles like Pokemon Go are excellent for any outside adventures you have, but so too is Playtech’s take on the classic Wheel of Fortune game show, Spin a Win live. The options don’t end there, though, with loads of games available for download on both iOS and Android devices. You might even fancy playing cards or a board game with your partner, too.
Experiment with alternative self-care practices
There are so many interesting self care therapies and rituals out there, however in my opinion one of the most comforting and accessible is gemstone therapy. Gemstone Therapy involves applying high-quality crystals to the body, working on an energetic level to support the body’s ability to self-heal not just physically but also emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. You can wear gemstone jewellery, apply gemstone-infused aura sprays, or receive a Gemstone Therapy session from a certified practitioner.
Call an old friend
Sometimes, hearing a familiar voice or reminiscing about the past can enable you to feel better about the present. Connecting with others is good for the soul also, and it enables you to talk with someone outside of the family. Even though being a parent is undoubtedly the most important aspect of your life, you can still be a friend too.
Also consider starting yoga and planning your next holiday. Nothing will make you feel as good as thinking about your next magical trip.
