Last week I shared what to do with kids in New York. Taking the whole family to New York can be a lot of fun – with great attractions, shopping and restaurants, then New York City is a good choice.
Visiting Times Square and taking a Liberty Cruise are just some of the things you need to do while on your trip. But just as important as knowing what to do, is knowing what not to do! Here are a few things you will need to avoid in order to have a good time.
Research Broadway Shows Before Selecting One
Going to a Broadway show can be a lot of fun, but there are a few things you need to do to avoid mistakes. Before you book a show to take your family to, you should do a bit of research. There are some shows that aren’t family friendly.
Taking the time to go online and find out more about a particular one is essential before buying tickets. By doing this, you can avoid being put into an uncomfortable situation.
Plan Out Your Meals in Detail
Some first-time visitors to New York fail to realize just how hard it can be to get a table at a popular restaurant. Before going on your trip, you need to plan out where you will eat each day. Once you have a list of restaurants, you will be able to start making your reservations.
While making these reservations will take some time, it is worth the effort considering the headaches it can prevent later on. Usually, you will be able to book these tickets online. Be sure to write down any confirmation information you get after making a reservation.
Be Mindful of the Types of Shoes You Pack
While on a vacation in New York City, you and your kids will probably do a lot of walking. Before leaving home, you need to focus on packing the right type of clothing and shoes for the whole family. Sandals and flip-flops are comfortable, but not really ideal for walking.
Packing a pair of comfortable trainers for the whole family can help you avoid discomfort while in the Big Apple. Checking the weather before leaving for your vacation will give you the information you need to figure out what type of clothing you should pack.
Don’t Visit the Empire State Building Observatory During Rush Hour
Checking out the observatory at the Empire State Building is something you definitely need to do while in New York City. Strategically planning your trip to the observatory can help you avoid rush hour traffic. The observatory is opened from 8 a.m. to 2 a.m., which gives you a large window of time to plan your visit in.
Going either early in the morning or late at night is the best way to get into this attraction without having to wait in long lines. The views from the observatory are a lot better at night, which is why you need to stay up a bit later to take your kids to see the New York City skyline.
A family vacation to the Big Apple is something your kids will remember for years to come. Thoroughly planning out this trip will allow you to have a much better time!
