When it comes to saving money, keeping to a budget and not maxing out on that credit card, there is something that many of us tend to overlook – the tech that will save you money.

Technology is so ubiquitous in our lives, and most of us use it every day whether it’s to make a phone call or check out the latest train times in the app, but many of us are not using it to our full advantage and that is no more true than when it comes to saving money.

So, if you’re serious about saving money and you have a smartphone, here are just a few things you can do that will save you money right now…

Download a savings app

There are so many apps that will help save you money that you would be foolish not to download at least one of them. Probably, one of the best is Acorns. This is a round-up app that basically rounds up any money you spend to the nearest pound (ow whatever you set it to) and invests the difference for you. Once you’ve set it up, you don’t have to do anything else and you will probably be surprised how much you can save each year without really noticing or missing it in your account.

Use SMS APIs

If you spend a lot of money staying in touch with people via text, it is worth knowing that you can use an SMS API to send texts for free. There are a lot of these APIs out there so it’s just a matter of finding the one that works for you and installing it in order to start making big savings.

Invest in smart plugs

With the price of energy rising, it is a good idea to make savings in this area wherever you can. One easy way to do this is by installing smart plugs, a smart little tech invention that will enable you to remotely turn things off when they’re not in use, so if you forget about turning off the TV before you head out. For example, you can use your phone to do just that and save yourself some energy in the process.

Ditch the gym for the Nintendo Switch

The Nintendo Switch costs £259. This might seem like a lot of money, but as well as providing entertainment for the whole family, there are also various games for the system which can help to keep you fit. When you consider the huge cost of gym memberships, it’s easy to see how this fun bit of tech could potentially save you money – and quite a considerable amount at that – without you having to sacrifice your fitness in the process. It’s not for everyone, but it’s definitely worth considering, especially if you have kids who would love to play anyway.

Get a coffee machine

If you drink a lot of takeout coffee because you prefer the taste, investing in one of the latest coffee machines, although they may seem expensive at first, could save you money totaling somewhere in the region of hundreds, even thousands of pounds over the years because fresh coffee will cost you pennies, rather than pounds, each day.

Time to start saving money!
