Which health screening should you take as a woman?

Most women only visit the doctor when they are either always under the weather, very sick or when a complication has become severe. Having a regular health screening does not necessarily mean that you are feeling ill. Going for a health screening as woman is very beneficial as it will reduce the risk of getting sick and help prevent life-threatening conditions. In fact, this was exactly how they picked up that I had pre-cancerous cells in my thyroid over ten years ago which led to early intervention and the removal of my thyroid gland.

You also get the chance to monitor any complications using updated technologies. Putting your health first and having a health screening is a brilliant way of giving yourself peace of mind and to redirect mental energy away from any niggling health concerns you might have. This article will outline the health screening you may want to undertake for healthier living.

Pap Smears

The pap smear test is often aimed at checking for cervical cancer. This test requires a doctor to take the cells from the cervix with a small brush and examines them. For women aged 21 to 30, you can consider taking the test after three years, while those above 30 years can do a checkup after every 5 years. Cervical cancer is curable, and the best way is to identify it earlier to prevent it from spreading.

Mammograms

Mammograms are another crucial screening you should consider. This test helps screen for breast cancer which it uses the x-ray images to determine. The machine used is invasive and can help detect any cancer in the body. However, it’s recommended that you do the checkup every two years. You should learn about HA Referral Cases which helps to get faster medical checkups and you can secure hefty discounts at private centers.

Bone Density Screening

When screening for bone density, the key factor is osteoporosis which is often carried out on women at 65 years. However, you can get checked for osteoporosis earlier if you have low weight or fractures.

Colon Cancer Screening

Colon cancer can be very dangerous if not detected in advance and at earlier stages. This test, however, is recommendable for mostly women aged 50. For this test, they can do a sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy.

Sigmoidoscopy is mainly used to examine the lower colon, where a light tube with a camera is inserted through the anus. It’s recommended you do the test after 5 years. On the other hand, colonoscopy involves examining the whole colon using a longer tube. If you are doing this test, you can do a recheck after 10years.

Blood Glucose Test

It’s vital for women aged 45 and above to consider doing a blood glucose test to help determine if they have prediabetes or diabetes. The fasting plasma glucose test should be carried out to determine the disease. However, for a prediabetic, the results for a normal test can vary, but for the plasma test, it should range from 100mg/dl or higher. The results for a diabetic person

will show a reading of 126mg/dl or higher. Knowing your status is vital to help control the disease at an early age, making the treatment effective.

Conclusion

The above screening is vital for your health and ensuring if you have any of the diseases, they can treat at earlier stages. Always do a full-body scan whenever necessary, and you can choose a good hospital for the checkups and where your medical history is stored.
