#1 Get the rollerskating bug!

When I was a child, I used to spend hours and hours of summer days rollerskating up and down my road. Rollerskating is not only a great way for kids to burn off some steam but it is also SERIOUSLY fun. Our friends at skates.co.uk have an incredible range of super affordable quad rollerskates which are ideal for children starting out. Once they get past the stumbling phase there will be no stopping them! Stay tuned to our giveaways page where we will be giving away a pair of rollerskates from skates.co.uk soon here.

#2 Give them their first festival experience

One exciting and memorable summer activity for kids is giving them their first festival experience. Festivals are vibrant and lively events that offer a variety of entertainment options, engaging activities, and delicious food. Attending a festival exposes children to a vibrant atmosphere filled with music, art, games, and cultural experiences. They can enjoy live performances, dance to catchy tunes, participate in interactive workshops, explore unique crafts, and indulge in tasty treats from food stalls. Giving children their first festival experience creates cherished memories that they will carry with them throughout their lives.

#3 Hit the theatre

Taking the kids to the theatre makes for a perfect summer family day out. We recently saw a fantastic production of The Emperor’s New Clothes at The Polka Theatre, Wimbledon – home to world-class children’s theatres, and are now totally obsessed! They have more great shows coming up over the summer months including Snow White, The Paper Dolls and The Pirate, The Princess and The Platypus plus lots of exciting drama workshops for budding young actors. Find out what’s on at the Polka Theatre here and stay tuned to our giveaways page where will be giving tickets away to attend Polka’s Theatre’s summer show The Pirate, The Princess and The Platypus here.

#4 Have a go at letterboxing

Letterboxing is a bit like a scavenger hunt. Following online clues, your child will seek out hidden containers containing a special stamp inside. With the stamp, you stamp your own letterboxing book, and with your family stamp, you do the same for the book tucked inside the hidden container. #5 Head to a museum or gallery

If you have artistic kids, make sure they get to see some of the world’s masterpieces! Head to an art museum or gallery for the day. It is so incredible enriching spending your day looking at art and sculptures, then convince them to go back and draw some of their favourites or create their own sculptures with Lego or items destined for the recycling bin.

#6 Create a summer reading challenge

Give your kids a summer reading challenge! You can begin by reaching out to your school district to see if they have created an optional summer reading program available to students. If not, you can find countless summer reading challenges online. Convince them to pair up with a friend or buddy to read through together and challenge each other!

You can find all sorts of book clubs and reading programs for kids, some even with rewards! If your kids are budding bookworms, celebrate the end of your stay-at-home summer camp experience by gifting them their favourite book.

#7 Pack a Picnic and Go for a Hike

Make sure to get some exercise to replace those summer activities usually taking place at camp. One great way to spend time in nature and get in some physical activity is to pack a picnic and water bottle in a day pack and go for a hike at a local park. While you should still wear a mask and social distance, it’s a great way for you and the kids to get some much-needed fresh air.

#8 Grow a Small Garden

Teaching your kids how to nurture plants makes them appreciate where their food comes from. So whether you have a spacious backyard where you can build a full-blown garden or have a patio with a couple of herb containers, allow your kids to take part and help you tend to the vegetation.

#9 Take a Dip in the Pool

Spend a day at a pool or swimming at a nearby lake or beach, and make sure your little ones are ready for the water by dressing them in adorable but practical baby swimwear. Investing in high-quality baby swimwear ensures that your child is comfortable, protected, and stylish while enjoying their aquatic adventures. Don’t let the fun stop at the baby stage! Kids of pretty much any age love spending a day at the pool or beach.

#11 Host Your Own At-Home Summer Camp

With life getting more expensive, if summer camp is looking less affordable this year, why not bring summer camp home this year by hosting some fun summer activities for them right in your own back garden or at the park? Pitch a tent outside and add some string lights around the house. You could even create the essence of camp with this nifty summer scented candle. This summer camp candle in particular will make your home smell like they are truly in summer camp!

#12 Hold a science experiment extravaganza

If it was a science summer camp that was cancelled, there are lots of ways kids can still test out experiments (with adult supervision, of course). For one, you can try out some easy kid-friendly STEM challenges, such as building a catapult or doing the egg drop test. You could also let your kids experience making a gooey slime, learning how to mix polymers with Newtonian fluids and seeing how they bond together. Plus, it makes a great toy that will keep them engaged for hours or even days.

Of course, you can always have them attend a virtual field trip through Discovery Education. The great part is you don’t have to volunteer to be a chaperone.
