Chocolate can be a weakness for any mama like myself. There are so many different chocolates, ranging from melt-in-your-mouth to dark chocolate bars. Once in a while, we all need to indulge ourselves in the amazing products of the world’s best chocolate makers. Whether you have left over Easter chocolate, or just need a pick me up after dinner, you have many options to choose from. Today, we’ll go over some of the world’s best types of chocolate from various countries including the UK, Italy and Switzerland.
United Kingdom – Green and Blacks
Green & Black’s was founded on the Portobello Road by husband and wife team Craig Sams & Jo Fairley. In 1991 Craig was sent a sample of chocolate by a peanut supplier. Lifetime chocaholic Jo later discovered the chocolate unattended and promptly ate it. She’d never tasted anything quite like it and was sure other chocolate fanatics would feel the same!
Fast forward to today and this chocolate manufacturer is ethically sourced, organic and highly prized for its incredible flavour and complexity. Their Organic collection has won multiple awards at the Academy of Chocolate and Great Taste Awards and it’s no wonder why!
Italy – Gianduja Chocolate
Secondly, it’s no secret that Italy is home to some of the best chocolates in the world. Specifically, you must try the gianduja chocolate that is made with a toasted hazelnut powder. Containing nearly 30% hazelnut, the taste is heavily flavored by hazelnut. Still, it has a smooth texture to the chocolate which is similar to nutella.
You can have gianduja chocolate in spreads, bars and square chocolates. It is one of the most prestigious Italian chocolate items in Italy and ranked as one of the best items around the world. If you happen to find a good gianduja chocolate box in your area, it might worth it to pick it up to share.
Switzerland – Lindt Chocolate
One of the largest chocolate brands in the world, Lindt chocolate comes from Switzerland. In a small country, chocolate is a major tradition. Per capita, Switzerland consumes the most chocolate in the world. It must be pretty tough to reduce your child’s sugar intake there.
The Lindt chocolate brand was started by the Lindt family who pioneered the recipe that would allow chocolate to melt in your mouth. For nearly 150 years, this Swiss chocolate has been one of the best in the world. Fortunately, it’s easy to find in your local area so you and your family can enjoy the classic Swiss chocolate at home.
United States – Scharffen Berger
Originally, the founder of Sharfeen Berger was known for wine and ended up creating one of the best chocolate bars in the United States. John Scharffenberger brought European chocolate making techniques stateside. Starting out in San Francisco, he was one of the first chocolate makers who controlled production from the sourcing of beans to producing bars.
These chocolate bars are some of the most premium chocolates available from the US. If you would like to enjoy this premium chocolate squares with 62% cacao mocha, that can contain a crunch, you can find them near you or online. It’s a chocolate delight that you and your family can enjoy.
Zurich – Teuscher Chocolate
For over 70 years, Teuscher has become one of the post popular chocolatiers in the world. They have one of the widest varieties and selections of chocolates, boasting over 100 recipes. In their recipes, they source some of the finest cocoa, marzipan, nuts and other ingredients to make their chocolate products.
One of their best selling items includes the champagne truffle. While these chocolates might be a little more expensive, they are worthwhile because they do not contain chemicals, additives or preservatives. If there is a special occasion at home, you can celebrate it with a box of Teuscher chocolates.
Since we live in such a hyper-connected world, we have the luxury of trying the best chocolates from various countries. Of course, you have to show pride for your own local chocolates. However, you can still appreciate the many different types of chocolates. They are all different have a unique flavor to offer.
Have some Green & Blacks at home. Try some Gianduja chocolate from Italy. Or, taste the classic melting chocolate by the Swiss. Take things stateside with the American chocolate from Scharffen Berger. Finally, enjoy some of the most luxurious chocolate from Zurich’s Teuscher chocolate. These are all some of the best chocolates from around the world that you deserve to enjoy from time to time.
