8 fashion essentials every mum should own

In this mum life, there’s not much time to think about what to wear – hey! we’re lucky if we even make it out of our pyjamas for the school run right? So if there are only a few things you should own to make getting dressed in the morning easy as pie, let them be these fashion essentials:

A slogan sweater

Go slogan, or go home. The perfect way to add a bit of sass to any outfit, even if you’ve got five days worth of dry shampoo on your hair and spit up on your cheek.

A biker jacket

Biker jackets are always in fashion for a reason – they are so versatile! They can be dressed up for date night or a gal’s night out or dressed down with some skinny jeans and pumps and are the perfect way of locking down the rockstar mum look.

A pencil skirt

Pencil skirts are cool again and hurrah! they are hugely flattering and are basically the hero of women’s midi skirts. Rock yours with some sneakers and a Breton top and you’re sorted.

A crossbody bag

A mum’s best friend, a crossbody bag can hide a multitude of sins…and can pack quite a lot of kiddy crap in it too! Go for something a bit more roomy so you can fit enough snacks inside to bribe your kids for a week.

Some pumps

When you’re carting little people here, there and everywhere, pumps should be your footwear of choice. Not only do they go with everything on this list, but they are also the perfect way of adding a bit of bling if you go for something a little sparkly like these….

Some awesome sunglasses

In this sleep deprived mum life, your best friend has to be a killer pair of shades. Go for cat eye to add a bit of glamour to the everyday blah.

Skinny jeans

Dress them up, dress them down, dress them all around! Whichever way you wear them and whatever shoes you wear them with – with trainers on a night out glammed up with heels, there’s no disputing these are a mum’s ultimate wardrobe staple.

A staple blouse

Whether it’s a pretty blouse for date night or a statement blouse for work, this favourite wardrobe staple is perfect tucked into high rise trousers or paired with skinny jeans.

  1. I am a recent covert to skinny jeans and they are so great for everything. I love wearing them with my DMs as they are the most comfy shoes/boots ever!

  2. I don’t really have any of these, so not sure what that says about my wardrobe (or lack of style!). For me a stripy top is a mum essential 🙂

  3. I’ve got trainers, sunnies, and the jeans!! Although not needed sunglasses for about 6 months now!! Very depressing 🙁

  4. Check to almost all of these. I am after a nice crossbody bag though as I’m lacking one. My husband will tell you I don’t need it though haha!

  5. I love my biker jacket and my crossbody bags – have quite a few of both of those! I don’t wear sunglasses though – needing a prescription makes them too expensive!

  6. I’m not doing too badly, I have almost everything on the list. And I think everyone needs a slogan jumper in their lives!!

  7. My favourite outfit, which I have in many different colours and prints, is a cord mini-skirt with a quirky patterned cotton shirt, tights and boots or pumps.

  8. Jeans flats (as use crutches or in wheelchair) all about comfort but feeling good lost 3 stone would love something from your boutique just my kinda style which is new one for losing weight and turning 50 next year…

  9. My most essential is a cross body bag, so I have my hands free to catch any runaway children!

  10. Jeans are my real essential and I love bootcut style and I would add a great pair of boots to the list as well!
