7 reasons we need to start travelling again

Today I wanted to share my thoughts on why we need to start travelling again. I have to be honest with you. Until a couple of months ago, when I thought about travel, my mind wanted to dissolve into a hot mess of impossibilities. Covid has taken our wanderlust and sense of adventure and shattered it, but it’s time to build it up and travel again.

I had an Incredible Hulk-like moment back in September, when I could finally no longer live without overseas travel. I could no longer face being boxed in my leafy suburb anymore. I needed to get out of the UK pronto.

And yet, despite being caught up in some traffic light changes, with Covid going around my daughter’s class, and the whole big question mark of whether our destination – Turkey – might suddenly close its borders to UK tourists, we made it out!

And it was nothing short of incredible.

This is why today I’m up with Femme Luxe to share these 7 reasons why we need to start travelling again:

Travel is so good for your confidence

Having not travelled for two years, I had completely forgotten how much travel boosts your self-esteem and confidence. It takes your brain out of the daily humdrum, challenges it, and provides an opportunity for discovery not just of your destination but also of yourself.

When you travel, you are exposed to all sorts of decision-making opportunities that you wouldn’t experience in everyday life. They help your work on your weaknesses and celebrate your strengths. You will almost certainly be a different person on your travels than you are when back at home.

Travel feeds your soul

The process of disconnecting has an immense impact on your being. The fact that you don’t have to worry about the bajillion daily to-dos means that you only have two things to tick off your daily lists – to relax and have fun. By stepping out of your usual daily role, you open yourself up to being enriched in ways that so many of us have been starved of during the pandemic. Travel offers plenty of opportunities for self-reflection and the sense of space without the responsibilities of your usual life opens you up to creativity.

Travel reaffirms relationships

Let’s face it, during the daily grind of life, relationships can feel shouty and strained. By travelling with loves ones, we get to spend plenty of playful time with our children, unmarred by our daily responsibilities. The opportunity to travel together, bond, visit new places and create new memories is nothing short of life-affirming.

It’s actually not as complicated as you think

The pandemic has raised levels of anxiety to unprecedented levels. But with travel regulation now more simplified than before, it is so much easy to travel overseas. Although there is an extra layer of admin with ensuring you have all your fit to fly/vaccine passports/lateral flow tests and passenger locator forms ready, it is worth the reward of freedom. Don’t let it put you off as I promise you it’s not as stressful as you think.

It feels a lot safer than your mind imagined

The media loves to make out that everything is chaos and doom and gloom, but once your break free of the prison we have been trapped in the last two years, you will realise that everything is a lot safer than you imagine. The airport experience is not as bad as you imagine (in fact, we were massively impressed with our Gatwick Airport experience both inbound and outbound).

Turkish Airlines who we flew with did everything to make you feel safe – they have even installed HEPA filters which use a special filtration system that can remove 99.97% of all particles whose diameter is up to 0.3 microns in the air. Impressive! Equally at our Hotel Pegasos Royal in Alanya, Antalya, masks were by and large worn in communal areas and everything was so spaced out that you really felt safe.

Lastly a shout out to TUI who we booked with who offered huge peace of mind with their Covid Cover which was a great mental safety net as I knew we would be supported if the worst-case scenario happened. Which thankfully it didn’t!

Remember, you are not being irresponsible travelling, so long as you travel responsibly….

We have all been so stressed and deserve it!

I didn’t realise how stressed I had been for the last two years until I finally escaped it all. It was quite the revelation. We have all been under such immense and unrelenting pressure during the pandemic which is terrible for our health, and it’s only when you step out of the daily grind that you realise just how huge a toll this ongoing situation has had on your wellbeing.

Tourism needs you

The economic impacts of the pandemic on the tourism industry have been unprecedented. As travel operators start to pick themselves up and brush themselves off, it’s time we follow suit and fall in love with travel again.

Do you agree we need to start travelling again?

  1. We should all start traveling again as soon as we feel comfortable. When we do, we must not forget to travel responsibly and follow basic safety measures.

  2. Great outfits! But if I am being completely honest, I never stopped traveling. But traveling throughout the US and Europe are too completely different things! I am so glad you were able to go and enjoy yourself!!!
