9 signs your life is being dominated by Whatsapp

Remember the days when if you wanted to speak to somebody you actually called them? No, neither can I. If you’re feeling that your entire life’s communication seems to be dominated by a slew of Whatsapp messages then you are definitely not alone. Slowly but surely Whatsapp groups have been taking over lives up and down the land. If this sounds familiar then check your life for the following signs:

You belong to more Whatsapp groups then you can shake a stick at

And that’s not counting the ten or so school-related ones. There’s the birthday party ones, the various family ones, the girl’s night out ones and one for basically every single life and social event you seem to be involved in.

You don’t check your phone half a day and…

…come back to a bajillion notifications.

You frequently fall foul of group confusion

You know the one where send a message to the wrong group and delete it faster than a kid chasing an ice cream truck and pray nobody notices it? That.

You seem to be endlessly scrolling

….to find out what you have missed on the bajillion Whatsapp chats you now belong to.

Your preferred communication mode is….

a Gif, because actually writing an answer into said bajillion groups takes far too long and too much brainpower.

You secretly long just to….

Hear somebody’s….anybody’s voice….because you truly can’t remember the last time you picked up the phone to call your friends.

The answer to your life or parenting problems….

….is always found within one of your bajillion Whatsapp groups.

You are boggled by the great mysteries of Whatsapp

…which include how to leave a Whatsapp group politely, decline someone’s suggestion to participate in yet another Whatsapp group, or remove the person who said they couldn’t make your child’s party without causing social warfare.

You dream of leading a life without Whatsapp

..but then wonder how you could ever go back to a life before you could converse with all your friends in one go.

Do you recognise any of these signs that Whatsapp is dominating your life? Please tell me I’m not the only one!

  1. I try not to overuse my phone. It’s shocking how obsessed many have become with checking whatsapp and other things on their phone. I also tend to write full sentences not just emojis 🙂

  2. I’m still a pick up the phone kinda gal! I do love WhatsApp though but I keep groups to a minimum.

I had a heart stopping moment today in a secret group about my bosses surprise leaving do, I text the group and then my bosses phone buzzed! I was convinced I’d sent it to the wrong group! Thankfully not! No panic deleting needed

  3. I am in a couple of groups that I was added to, I have to say I find it a bit annoying having my phone ping all the time. I often come back to a thread of 35 conversations!

  4. I recently got a new phone and lost all of my WhatsApp conversations, which initially I was sad about but actually having a refresh and less conversations on the go has been amazing! 🙂

  5. Haha, this made me laugh. I do use WhatsApp a lot, it’s great because I can call my parents abroad via WhatsApp for free. It’s true though that sometimes the groups go a bit crazy, especially the school related ones.

  6. This is my life! I’m part of far too many groups and I can’t keep up with it all. It’s actually ridiculous x
