A toddler’s bathtime can be of the most fun parts of the week for our little devils. Getting soapy and having a splash is usually full of smiles (although of course sometimes tantrums also come into play, especially when it’s time to get them in the tub in the first place, or out at the end!).

But we don’t need to tell you that baths and bathrooms come with a host of risks. From shampoos and soaps sitting within reach to slippery surfaces, bathtime accidents can come from anywhere.

In this article, we’re not going to state the obvious. You know to keep chemical cleaners locked up and to never leave your child unattended in the bath. Instead, we’re going to update you on some of the newer and lesser-known risks that linger during atoddler’s bathtime. And, we’ll tell you how to avoid them so bathtime stays full of smiles.

Nix Germs with Antimicrobial Products

Germs and toddlers go together like tea and biscuits. Toddlers are always on the floor, and they put everything in their mouths. It’s not realistic to put them in a sterile environment at all times or to disinfect every surface, every day. But, you can keep your little one a little safer by using antimicrobial products.

Products made from antimicrobial materials like copper, silver and bamboo are naturally resistant to germs. For your bathroom, we recommend antimicrobial towels and washcloths like Soji Towels.

Studies have found towels to be the dirtiest things in your bathroom. They absorb bacteria from moisture in the air as well as germs from your toilet and give them a perfectly damp and warm spot to grow. Just 3 days after a wash, your towels contain hundreds of times more bacteria than a toilet seat!

It’s important to keep smelly, dirty towels away from your toddler.

Soji Towels are woven with pure antimicrobial silver, so they are naturally resistant to bacteria, viruses, mould, fungus, allergens and more. Silver kills germs on contact, so your towels will never become infested no matter how long they go without a wash.

An added benefit of antimicrobial towels is that they cannot develop those musty towel odours. Towel odours are caused by bacteria and mould growth.

We love Soji Towels because they are safer and softer. Made from ultra-fine bamboo, Soji have a silky plush feel. This is enhanced by a Japanese weaving technique that causes the towel to fluff up when you use it. Soji feels like a great big hug from a litter of kittens!

For busy families, Soji Towels bring much-needed peace of mind to a toddler’s bathtime. And because they dry 5x faster than standard towels, they’ll be fresh and ready for mum’s shower too!

If you’re ready to switch to antimicrobial towels, you can take 50% off a set of Soji Towels now. You’ll get extra-large bath towels and washcloths for the whole family, guaranteed germ-free forever!

Keep Phones Far

Being physically present with your toddler during bathtime doesn’t mean you’re actually present. For many of us, phones have become an extension of ourselves. We can barely go 10 seconds without picking up the phone and scrolling through Facebook or Instagram.

The scary thing is, we often do this subconsciously. Have you ever found yourself looking through your phone without knowing why? Or, have you taken out your phone to check the time only to get distracted by an app or notification?

It’s easy to get distracted during a toddler’s bathtime and to find yourself wandering away from your child, even if you’re sitting right next to the tub. Not only that, but kids can easily dunk your phone in the water if you look away for a second!

For the sake of your toddler and your electronics, it’s best to keep your phone in a different room during your toddler’s bathtime. If you’re afraid you’ll miss a call, just leave it outside the bathroom door with the sound on. It IS possible to go without your phone for 20 minutes!

Mind Your Toddler’s Sensitive Skin

We often forget that children, especially babies and toddlers, have much more sensitive skin than adults do. We all know to buy age-appropriate soap and bubble bath to protect children’s skin. But you also need to mind their skin when drying them off.

Towels that feel normal to us can feel rough and abrasive to toddlers. If they’re fussy after getting out of the bath, it might not be because playtime is over. They might find your towel painful.

This can get worse if you dry them off too aggressively. Try to pat them down rather than rubbing and scrubbing. Better yet, just give them a big hug after you wrap them in their towel.

This is another reason we recommend Soji Towels. They’re made from bamboo, which is much softer and 3x more absorbent than cotton. Soji are safe for sensitive skin and even babies’ skin. And, you don’t need to rub or scrub to dry off. Soji lift water off of your skin.

If you want to use the same towel as your toddler, we recommend Soji. If not, you should get a separate towel for your toddler made for sensitive skin. Appropriate fabrics include bamboo and fine cotton.

Remove the Rubbish Bin

One of the sneaky yet dangerous things in your bathroom is the rubbish bin. You may have remembered to keep all the electronic appliances, chemicals and razors locked up tight, but once thy’re finished, they all end up in a toddler-accessible bin.

Toddlers can easily get bored in the tub and start looking for something to get their fingers into. The bin is usually the most enticing thing around, as it’s at their eye-level and full of “goodies.”

Remember to remove the bin from the floor during your toddler’s bathtime. And if possible, remove it altogether. Replace it with a small bin on a shelf, high above your toddler’s reach, or put your rubbish in a disposable bag and take it straight to your bin in the garage or kitchen.

Smile! It’s Bathtime!

Nobody on the planet is happier than a toddler splashing around in the bath. It’s where some of the most joyous and goofiest memories are made between parents and their kids. Don’t let worries and risk turn your happy memories into stressful ones.
