How to treat yourself better: Three top tips

treat yourself better

It is crucial in life to take care of your own needs and treat yourself once in a while. This is true whether you’re out at work all day, at home looking after your family, or a combination of both. It’s true whether you’re a man or a woman. It’s true no matter what age you are. If you don’t make time to treat yourself, you could burn out and become stressed, perhaps even depressed, and certainly miss out on a lot of fun things in life.

Life is, as they say, short, and you should try to enjoy it as much of it as you can. If that means taking some time out every now and then and putting yourself first, then that’s good – you should. Yet the question remains, how? Here are some tips to help you treat yourself better.

Do Something You Really Want To Do

When you really stop to think about it, what is it that you want to do more than anything else? Everyone has one dream at least, and perhaps a number of them. From flying a plane to jumping out of one, to re-training for a different career or even starting your own business, there are countless things that people can do. What’s yours?

Once you know what it is, why not treat yourself and do it? Don’t worry about what other people think because this is about your life and about you treating yourself better. You need to do what makes you happy, even if your life changes completely because of it.

Buy Yourself A Gift

If you’re not ready to make big changes, or you don’t want to, or there isn’t anything on your ‘bucket list’ that you can do right now, that doesn’t mean you can’t still treat yourself and make yourself feel great. One thing you can do instead (or as well as) is to buy yourself a gift.

As a busy person with other people to think about, your needs will probably come last, but they shouldn’t – if you want to buy yourself something, why not do it? It doesn’t even have to be something practical for the home or to help you at work, which might be your first thought. It really can be anything.

There are lots of gifts that will make you feel good. They could include buying yourself flowers, setting up a Scent Magic subscription, treating yourself to a pair of nice new pyjamas, and so much more. Buying yourself a gift is a great way to show yourself some love, and that is how to live life to the fullest.

Don’t Be So Hard On Yourself

Treating yourself better isn’t necessarily about buying yourself lovely things or doing something exciting; it might be that you simply stop being so hard on yourself. We do tend to push ourselves very hard, and when something goes wrong or we make a mistake or we just feel as though we’re not living up to our own and everyone else’s expectations, we can berate ourselves harshly.

This isn’t helpful, and it only serves to make us feel much worse, often about situations that are completely out of our control. Rather than being hard on yourself, take the opportunity to learn what not to do in the future, or to change your life for the better, and you will feel so much better for it.

So go on ahead – treat yourself better. Give yourself permission…because you deserve it!

  1. Good and appropriate topic for a blog. The British we are told had / have a culture of :- “ Don’t Blow your own trumpet’, sort of don’t be “big headed” / boastful.

Yet :- “ Don’t hide your light under a bushel”. Or don’t hide / belittle your talent /s , skills. Instead make use of them. Let them be beneficial to yourself, and others.

Somehow finding ‘the middle road’ / Balance.

It seems that we need to be kind to ourself / ves, as well as others.

  2. I often feel people feel guilty about doing there own thing. For instance my daughter has been of work with one of the symptoms is anxiety which I would think is effecting quite a few people this yr. I said you want to take it easy ,She told me her husband was working from home so she didn’t want him to think she was sitting around everyday doing nothing. There you have it! I do think sometimes we worry what others will think of us or say.
