What to wear this Spring

Finally, the chill in the air has left us (for the time being!), and it’s time to think about jazzing about our wardrobes a bit for Spring. Dopamine dressing

Dopamine dressing is the concept of dressing purely to boost your mood. In essence, choosing to wear a rich sensory input (colour, shape and texture all apply here) can make your brain fizz and boost your dopamine levels – which quite frankly in the world we are all living in right now, we could all do with.

I always feel that dressing like a lollipop basically works. So think about fun colours, styles and combinations which basically sticks a big tongue out at all that is miserable (of which there is plenty!).

Retro revival

Pretty in pink

Pink is no doubt a colour that is everlasting, but this Spring it’s all about the hot pink and bubblegum brights. An easy way to bring this trend to life is to wear a gorgeous maxi dress with a pink print like this one from The Style Attic.

Another label with an amazing story which I’d like to share with you. Leigh Unwin, mum of two and founder of The Style Attic, launched the brand back in 2014 after welcoming her baby girl Edie at just 25 weeks. The early arrival of Edie, and the medical help she has since needed since her Cerebral Palsy diagnosis, flipped Leigh’s life upside down and saw her unable to continue her full time work in the fashion industry. 

They have a rather fabulous collection of on-trend dresses and footwear amongst so many other things, and this – my favourite Cresidda Maxi (currently sold out) – is a prime example and bang on the hot pink trend.

Style note: team up a Spring dress with a pair of their Annie Gladiator sandals to complete the look, and if it’s too fresh to wear sandals on their home, try them with some socks and tights underneath (yes also making a comeback!).

Go green

First, there was Kermit green, now there is Wordle green. Well whatever green it is, it is definitely a thing for Spring! Although this may seem like an unlikely trend, the great thing about wearing green is that it’s so ridiculously fun that you can be as playful with it as you like.

Black is back

A little more on the jumpsuit. By the time Spring rolls around, I can practically be found living in a jumpsuit. They just look so put together without even trying! The fashion industry is slowly waking up to the need to be more sustainable and ethical, and you can expect to see a lot more of this going forward. Some key sustainable and ethical style trends to look out for are recyclable textiles; renting fashion; local production, product passports and transparency.
