Do these things to bring humour into a relationship

Scientists have confirmed that couples who laugh together, stay together and quite honestly if it wasn’t for humour and laughter in our own relationship of almost 14 years over the last few years I think I would have entirely lost the plot by now. But humour may not come naturally to everyone or every couple, so how can you bring humour into a relationship to help lighten the heavy load of life right now?

Today I’ve teamed up with Boomf – the home of personalised cards, funny anniversary cards and gifts which go the extra mile – to share our own personal experiences and ways we bring humour into a relationship to keep it strong.

So, as well as sending funny anniversary cards, here are some ideas to get you started:

Get silly

Forget what other people might think about you and have a good old muck around. Through your inhibitions to the wind and…

  • Put on silly voices
  • Pull silly faces during conversations
  • Throw something completely weird into the mix
  • Send funny wedding anniversary cards
  • Play a prank
  • Bust out some ridiculous dance moves
  • Tease them
  • Tell a joke (if you’re good at telling them, or even if you’re not!)
  • Do something completely left-field and hilarious
  • Call each other silly names (poopoo head is always a good one!)
  • Make a joke out of the annoying attributes (see funny anniversary card below as an example!)

Watch comedy together

You don’t need to be the entertainer to bring humour into a relationship. Youtube and social media is awash with funny videos. My other half is the master of discovering this and will always pull out some randomly hilarious video for us to watch on a daily basis. Watching pranks or your favourite comedian (sorry but I still love Chris Rock!) is also a great way to get your giggle on.

Be gross

We humans are quite basic creatures really. Just like our kids, there is no better way to bring humour into a relationship instantly than being gross….and by that we mean burping and farting! The louder the better. I mean, who can actually stop themselves from laughing at that????

And just to prove it, can we take a moment to appreciate this funny anniversary card?

Find ways to have fun as a family

If you want to bring humour into a relationship, then you’ll need to involve the kids also seeing as you spend so much time with them. Think about things you can do together as a family which will be fun and bound to make you chuckle. Here are some ideas from things we tend to do:

  • Make funny videos together
  • Play crazy golf
  • Have a water balloon fight
  • Play old school fairground games like hoopla
  • Have a crazy dance-off
  • Play board games/card games
  • Go exploring
  • Play frisbee/rounders
  • Go wild with the hose in the garden

Switch up date night

Got a date night coming up? A romantic meal out is always but my god, it feels so serious sometimes? Instead, you could try something more playful like:

  • Bowling
  • Climbing
  • Playing arcade games
  • Going to a funfair
  • Grab some streetfood
  • Go for a night drive without a destination
  • Go for a bike ride
  • Go to a gig
  • Swing on the swings at the playground
  • Visit a really random museum
  • Play Would You Rather
  • Do something you are really bad at together (paint, skate, bake anything else that is big old FAIL)
  • Play charades

These are just some ideas to bring humour into a relationship but I am sure you will have more to add to the list! Why not leave a comment below with yours.
