Remember the days when a family photo book was simply what it said on the tin – a book of photos? Well, these days family photo books are more than just that, taking inspiration from scrapbooking there are so many creative things you can do to bring your family photo book even more to life with all those lovely memories. If you really want to create a special keepsake for years to come, today I’m sharing these creative ideas for your next family photobook to inspire you:

Lists

Whether it be your top ten favourite family moments, things you have been grateful for, or news events that defined the year, lists are always a fun thing to look back on and make a great addition to a family photo book. The brilliant thing about lists is that you can create a list for pretty much anything and everything so you can really let your imagination go wild here and have fun getting the whole family involved with brainstorming.

Children’s art

If your fridge is already camouflaged under a layer of children’s art, then let me tell you – using some of it in your photobook is a great way of digitizing it instead of endlessly storing it! And the great news is – you don’t need a fancy pants scanner to nail this. You can transform it into a photo book-friendly format by simply taking a snap of it with your camera.

Words to wisdom

Maybe you have some favourite quotes you’d like to include in your photo book for family memories that are special to you and your family. Or for a more humourous take on things, you could get creative and draw in some funny favourite sayings or words the kids have blurted out in speech bubbles.

Anything sentimental

Did your kiddos present you with a “Best mummy in the world” certificate or perhaps you received a special note from a family member which really moved you. Including any sentimental notes, cards and drawings or an excellent piece of writing done by one of your kids that moved you can make a lovely addition to any family photo book. You could also include tickets to anything you’ve managed to get to see or visit, maps from your travels, certificates and awards or something from your family member’s favourite games to play or sports.

Numbers

Numbers are a very complimentary to photobooks – these could be heights, miles travelled, how many teeth have been lost that year, family milestones…the list goes on! So if you can put a number on it, why not include it?

Different types of photos

And lastly, we couldn’t have a post about creative ideas for your next family photo book without talking about all the different types of photos to include. As well as the usual family photos you can include:
