When decorating the living room, all too often our focus hangs if not solely, then predominantly on the furniture that we’re filling it up with. However, as a result, a lot of people can end up with vertical spaces that feel a little lacking in life or style. Here, we’re going to look at a few tips that you can use to spruce up your walls, whether you want to turn them into a focal point or you simply want to make sure that they’re not as boring as your fear.

Display your loves

Of course, the first and simplest option that many people will think of is to hang the things that they love to look at on their walls. This can mean wall art, photos, and so on. It’s best to think about what you want to display, whether it’s something thematic to the look of the room or something that reflects your life a little more personally. Aside from your own personal photo collection, one idea for parents is to preserve some of your child’s artwork to make your own gorgeous and heartwarming collage.

Use them to create space

The walls don’t have to be used as a space to draw attention and create a display, either. They can just as easily be used to enhance the overall look of the room. This is especially true when it comes to creating a feeling of space. One of the best ways to do this is to choose mirrors to put on your walls. The best walls to add mirrors to are those that face the windows, so they can reflect more light around the room, making it feel much more spacious, but the optical illusion of additional room works wherever you put it.

Light it up

Mirrors aren’t the only way to add the look of additional space to your walls, either. Wall light fixtures can do just as good a job. Of course, lights can play many more functions than that alone. They can light up dark spaces, whether you want to better use them for decor or practical purposes, they can create a cosy warm feeling via accent lighting, and they can make the room feel safer. This is especially true for any rooms that might have level changes in the floor.

Add some texture

If you have a wall that’s looking a little bare, perhaps you don’t need to add anything to it, perhaps you need to change it entirely. People who are aiming for a minimalist style might not want much in the way of visual clutter on their vertical spaces. Instead, you can choose installations such as brick wall cladding to totally change the look and texture of the wall. There are many different kinds of wall panels or cladding to choose from that can emulate the feel and aesthetic of a wide variety of materials so choose the one that suits your tastes and create a feature wall that needs little to no ornamentation.

Float some decor space

Vertical space can be great for storage, as well. When it comes to the living room, however, your open storage spaces might be best used for options like vignettes. Aside from floating shelves, you can make better use of spaces that are already occupied, such as placing console tables above your radiators. That way, you’re not using any additional standing space, and you’re also making the area over the radiator a little safer. Then you can use this table to display more of the knick-knacks in an orderly and organised way that doesn’t clutter it up too much.

Hang some fabrics from it

You don’t need anything too elaborate to make use of your wall, either. Sometimes, a single fabric covering it from end to end or hanging right in the middle can be enough to add some texture, some colour, and some personality to the rest of the room. To that end, you should look at some of the hanging tapestries that you can add to your wall. There are all different sorts of styles and colours, so finding one to match or contrast the furniture of the room shouldn’t be too difficult.

The walls of your living room offer the opportunity for something that can be hard to find: the room to express your personality without much in the way of practical considerations. You don’t need to think about how your walls meet your day to day needs, only how they can help style your home. Hopefully, the tips above help you figure that out.
