As I sit here and write this, I’ve just received the dreaded email from my daughter’s school that a pupil there has been tested positive for COVID 19. Well, with our school being in a borough that now has the second-highest rate of infection in London, it was bound to happen sooner or later. It is at about this time when a fair amount of parents will be wondering where they can get a COVID 19 test for your child…fast!
After last month’s shambolic testing scandal when so many parents weren’t able to get a test for their children for love nor money, meaning kids missing yet more school – it’s time to get real here. As an owner of two businesses and consulting on a third, every working day counts.
For working parents, the prospect of having children home whilst waiting for a test and having yet more interruptions to the working day is about as welcome as swallowing a cup of sick. Especially as it feels like we have only just gotten back into the swing of things.
So what can we do?
The choice is either….
a) To play Russian roulette with the free national testing service. A quick check on the NHS website has the usual warning that the service is currently very busy and that if you cannot get a test now, or the location or time are not convenient, try again in a few hours. Ha! no suprises there. Despite local testing centres sitting empty, chances are I will be told to go to Cardiff for a test or some such nonsense nowhere near me!
b) Suck it up and pay for a test yourself. Quite frankly, if I can’t get anywhere with a), I’m more than willing to do b) so long as I don’t have to take out a mortgage to do so. The cost will be minimal compared to the amount of time and earnings I would lose if the status quo were to get interrupted again – which seems increasingly likely.

My son is learning remotely. That said, we didn’t see any need for him to get a test. Besides, none of us have the symptoms. But it’s great to know about this.

I am hoping to avoid COVID testing but my son is in school now so it could happen. They are doing testing at a local pharmacy, dr offices, and the hospital.
It’s so scary to have COVID. Weve been trying to do all safety ways just to avoid it. But who knows, right? There is one testing free in our city, we just have to book a schedule.
