Celebrating Valentine’s Day is not limited to just you and your significant other. With everything happening around the world, it is important to celebrate love and make sure everyone you love knows how you feel. Celebrating Valentine’s Day as a family is a perfect way to do this and a great way to remind the people in your life that you love them. But we have a few ideas on how to include your family in helping you say those three words to those that you love.

1.     Write hand-written letters

With the use of computers in today’s world, you may not have sent a good old-fashioned letter in quite some time. And if you haven’t, your kiddos most likely haven’t either. It’s time to break out the paper, envelopes, and stamps and get creative!

If you want to add some flare to your envelopes, get a wax seal from Letter Seals! They are the epitome of old-fashioned letter writing, and they add a beautiful personal touch to an already thoughtful note. Plus, there are so many to pick from, you can have one for every occasion of letter writing, or get one that encapsulates you all as a family.

2.     Send something special

If your immediate family doesn’t live in the same house as you, you may need to send them a little something to remind them how much you love them. FTD offers great Valentine’s gift for daughter near and far. Their floral arrangements are sure to brighten her day and let her know you are thinking of her. Plus, they will be delivered right to her door! Less hassle for you, and she gets a special surprise.

3.     Share a meal

Spending time in the kitchen to celebrate Valentine’s Day as a family is a surefire way to make memories together. It will help you to work on your teamwork skills, and will help you work toward a common goal.

You can try out that recipe you have been wanting to try, or you can let your family pick all their favourites. The possibilities are endless when it comes to picking a recipe! Once you have completed the meal, you will get to sit down and eat together as a family and enjoy the fruits of your labor!

4.     Do something adventurous

We know you all have been in lockdown together, so you most likely have run out of fun things to do. If you have exhausted Pinterest and are tired of your normal go-to activities, let The Adventure Challenge do the work for you.

Their book is packed full of mystery activities to celebrate Valentine’s Day as a family and have fun. They are covered in scratch-off material but labeled with how much time it will take, if it costs money, and a general overview of what to expect. Then you scratch it off and get to that adventure. Once you have finished you can adhere your pictures in the book and write about what you experienced together and the fun you had!

5.     Get to know each other better

You may think you know everything there is to know about each other, but there might be some info about your family that will surprise you! For a different spin on celebrating Valentine’s Day as a family, why not take some time to write down thought-provoking (but not overly invasive) questions to ask each other.

You can ask things like: What is your dream job? What are you most scaredof? Etc. Things that get you all talking and learning more about one another. Or some that will allow you to show your love and support, too.

6.     Play a game together

You may have played a board game together recently, but we suggest trying to play a video game together, too! If you think they already spend too much time playing video games, that probably means they are passionate about them. Instead of faulting them for that, join them! Crazy as it might sound, this could just be the ultimate expression of love in your children’s eyes believe it or not.

We hope that whatever it is you choose to do to celebrate Valentine’s Day as a family, that you get to show your love for those closest to you. Happy Valentine’s Day! Enjoy!

  1. These are great ideas. I just saw the Adventure Challenge referenced somewhere else. I will need to check this out. Although this is about Valentine’s Day, for New Year’s Eve 2020, our son hung out with us and we decided to play video games since that’s his thing!

  2. I love all of your suggestions and I am enjoying your Valentine posts. We normally do everything described as a family and as a couple. My hubby and I write love letters as we call them, and I prefer these to a store-bought card. We do these mainly on birthdays or if we recognize we had a tough week and we need a reminder or if we feel like it.

I have to say getting to know each other better is my favourite. When we sit as a family and have open conversations, we get to learn a lot about each other and the children.

  3. Me and my sister used to write a Valentine’s Day letter for my mom when I was a kid, and up until now we still do it together with my niece. It is a simple and creative way to express and show our love to my mom.

  4. This is a fun holiday because it breaks up the year with something interesting. I like to celebrate it as a family too. Happy valentine’s Day to you!

  5. I love the idea of writing letters and playing games together. Those would be perfect activities for Valentine’s Day.
