Since Covid, it’s safe to assume that we’ve all been more aware of the value of our health. And whilst looking after ourselves is more important than ever, no one is more important to protect to boost our child’s immune system – especially now they are all getting back into circulation which we all know means so will the germs and bugs too!

We all know how miserable it is having an ill child at home and any parent would agree that they would take the hit for a cold, cough or sickness bug over their children any day.

So, what can we do day-to-day to ensure our children wake up each morning fighting fit and ready for anything?

There is no magic wand for a strong immune system and no sure-fire prevention for colds and viruses, but the answer is quite simple – keep them healthy.

Diet

Firstly, never underestimate the power of a good diet. Yes, getting the greens into your children’s meals can be tricky but there are always ways to sneak veggies in amongst mash potato, pasta sauces and the like. When planning meals for the week, think rainbow; red fruit, green veggies, and white carbs. All foods offer something different that little ones need in their diet, so keep meals balanced.

Sleep

Sleep is also essential for a strong immune system. Of course, it isn’t easy to make sure your child gets enough sleep. One thing is for sure, it never feels like enough! But a sleep-deprived child will be much more susceptible to germs and illness. Try and ensure that babies get 16 hours of sleep a day, toddlers 11-14 hours and young children 10-13 hours.

Vitamins

It’s also important to give those vitamin intakes a boost with probiotics designed for children and babies. You might be surprised at just how many aspects of health your gut can affect, including your immune system. Therefore, focusing on gut health should never be overlooked – no matter your age.
