Getting your family outdoors is an excellent way to enjoy quality time with your family members. Getting out and appreciating the beauty of nature can also have a positive impact on your overall health and wellbeing and has been shown to boost your mood and reduce feelings of stress and anxiety. So, if you’re feeling tired of the hustle and bustle of city life, why not escape to the great outdoors for some peace?

Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to get your family outdoors and enjoy some much-needed fresh air whether that be in the countryside or somewhere closer to your doorstep. To give you some ideas, here are four ways to get your family outdoors.

1. Rent a motorhome

Renting a motorhome or camper van is a great way to explore a new area and enjoy the great outdoors while still having comforts like warmth and cooking facilities. The first step to planning a motorhome trip is to choose a driving route. The US is a great place to take a motorhome holiday with some of the most popular routes being Route 66, Great River Road, Pacific Coast Highway and Hill Country.

Fortunately, many companies offer great value RV rentals, so you should be able to hire a motorhome whenever you decide to set out on your US road trip. Try to book early and shop around to get the best deals. When planning your route, make sure to research fun stops along the way. National Parks are a great place to witness beautiful natural scenery and enjoy outdoor activities like hiking, cycling, and sailing.

2. Go on a Skiing Trip

Time in the mountains can offer some much-needed peace and quiet and teach your children about a more rural and rugged way of life. The mountains also offer some spectacular natural scenery and plenty of fun outdoor activities such as tobogganing, snowboarding, and ice skating.

Learning to ski is a great skill that your children can use in later life, plus children tend to pick up skiing techniques far quicker and easier than adults. They can then use these skills if they decide to take part in a school ski trip or if they get invited on a skiing holiday when they’re older. Learning to ski as a family can be a great way to bond and spend quality time together. It also gives you the opportunity to have lots of unique experiences and create exciting memories.

If you’re planning a trip to America, there are plenty of places to ski around the US, including Aspen, Lake Tahoe, Vail and Park City.

Although skiing is considered a fairly expensive hobby and holiday choice, you can still find some great value deals if you search around and make sure to book in advance.

3. Plan a Camping Trip

Going on a camping trip is an excellent way to enjoy the outdoors and reconnect with your family, without daily distractions like the Internet and smart devices. You can either choose to go camping with a comfortable tent, with just a backpack where you sleep under the stars, or by going the luxury route and renting a motorhome.

Whatever you decide, camping is always such a fun adventure and is also a great way to get some exercise, enjoy the beautiful scenery, and build stronger bonds with your family. With this in mind, here are some useful tips to help you plan the perfect stress-free family camping trip:

  • Try to plan your camping trip at a time when you’re likely to have good weather
  • Choose a campground with fun activities to keep the kids entertained such as playgrounds, kids’ clubs, and nature trails
  • Remember that popular camping grounds tend to get booked up well in advance, so make sure that you book early and don’t rely on just turning up and getting a slot
  • Make a list of all the things that you will need to pack for your camping trip. This will ensure that you don’t forget to pack the essentials like baby wipes, warm clothing, a torch, and a first-aid kit.

4. Have an Outdoor Hobby

Finding an outdoor hobby that your whole family enjoys is a fantastic way to spend more time together while enjoying nature. There are plenty of fun outdoor hobbies to choose from such as hiking, cycling, tennis, bird watching, and football. Let everyone in your family choose an outdoor hobby they’d like to try and then do one each week as a family.

Visiting National Parks is a great way to try exciting outdoor activities like rock climbing, sailing, and ziplining. You could also get your whole family involved in a gardening project at home. That way, your family will get to spend quality time in nature and you will have a beautiful outdoor space to enjoy together.
